new car suggestion
hey guys,
im not replacing my civic so dont worry abt that
my other car is a VW passat - B5 1999 model (the new one but not the new new one with all the chrome junk).
I love the car - it rides great and all. power kicks butt (its a V6), i love the reverse blue and red lighting, and the style is classic. Thing is - its going into its 3rd year, and altho we havent had any major problems yet, im concerned about its realiability - being a VW and all.
IF (and thats a big IF) I were to sell the car, what would you suggest as a replacement? Something in the <$25k range. I was thinking a new Accord (although Im not crazy about the new styling), an Altima, a Hyundai XG350, a used IS300 or an Acura TL? its gotta be reliable and relatively gas efficient and 4 door. But i dont want it to be a boring car either. especially after driving a V6 VW.
Any suggestions?

I'm not sure if the wrx is less than $25k if so, you got a 4dr awd turbocharged car that would definitely be fun to drive and still gets good gas economy since it's 4cyl. i think the mpg in city/highway is like 20/30...if the pricing is right i think that's a good car to have

My friend was quoted $600 below the carsdirect price. $22,600 (for a new 2k2 WRX stick, September '02 zip code: 90241)

only 3 years? it seems like youve had that car forever.....
anyway...the wrx certainly wont be boring...and its practical too...you could even get the wagon. plus alot of after-market products for you to have fun with.
for a little more refined...i definalty think the altima is a good choice...3.5 v6.
and they look soooo niiiiice

thanks for the suggestion guys. as for the jetta - i wouldnt replace a VW with a VW - especially the Jetta - i've heard horror stories about their reliability.
The WRX sounds like an option - but is their reliability up there with the Honda's and Toyota's?
TL might be out of the price range.
And for gas milage purposes - Im going to stay away from the V6's and go for a 4-banger.
No RSX or coupe's because it has to be a 4 door.
Hmmm .... im gonna go check pricing on the WRX, Altima, and TL. Any more suggestions?

Well, I know you really don't want to hear it, but I'd check out the Lancer. Granted, it doesn't have a lot of power but it's quite comfy and roomy and drives nice. Mitsu is pretty damned reliable too. And not too badly priced. Probably about $16,500 for the OZ edition with some options. With the extra money you'd save, you could slap a turbo on that thing and run low boost and have the power, but still be somewhat fuel efficient.

He's got a good point... VW has a 10 year, 100K powertrain warranty, and a 12 year rust warranty. Drive it into the ground.
If not, I'd get a Maxima (about $26K).

well i guess i wont be making that car switch anyway. i just found out my division of my company is closing. I will be out of a job by next march. no sense in having a new car payment without a job.
damn! i was all set to get the altima or the wrx too.

Take a look at the '03 Maximas. My dad had one as a loaner car when he was getting full leather installed in his Jetta GLI (very good car, don't know why you wouldn't want one) and that thing is nice and it hauls. I'm used to driving a Civic, didn't think about the hp difference, spun the tires and looked like a fool. Good car though, spacious, well finished.
