Why do some cars have stock steelies in front??
Why do some cars have stock steelies in front??
I've seen it a lot of times, and its weird ....either that or they have two different rims on the front. Do some people do this thinking it looks nice, or do they just not have enough money to buy the front two? Or the more laughable possibility, is it because the car is front-wheel drive and they want cheaper more durable tires up front (you know all that torque in our 100hp Civic's a killer.)
I saw a white 2k1 Civic in the Berkeley/Oakland area yesterday with some kinda body kit and rims on the back, stock steelies up front.

Drag racing...or pretending to. If you have nice wheels and lo-pro tires, they're useless on the strip, so you put your stock wheels (assuming you have a set of race tires ie. drag radials) back on when you run.

no, not for drag racing, maybe someone steal the rims and they are just in process to getting another rims but dont wanna waste teh old one, or someone just cant afford 4
If winter is approaching, some people put on steel wheelies with snow tires cuz their cars are front wheel drives. That is another possibility too. But I think it's illegal nowadays to only change the front two and not the back two??
NAH NAH NAH, They put steelies up front ccause if you drop your car on rims and the drop is huge, chances are they're rubbing their tires, so they put the smaller stock tire on til' they get enough $$$ to get a camber kit.....
My friend did this.....looked ugly

For winter tires? Maybe, but this is bay area California, it doesn't snow.
For camber adjustment? The rear tends to have more negative camber than the front when lowering.
If somebody stole them, why only steal two? Not likely ....maybe you're right in some cases, but that's not adequate to explain why I see a lot of cars like this ...a lot of cars don't only get their front two stolen.
Drag racing ... now see here's where I'm puzzled, how can a civic generate enough torque to make the wheels spin/burn? The best our cars can do is make the tires chirp, you're not going to have your car burning out the tires, nitrous or not, I/H/E or not, K20 swap or not. If this is in fact the reason, man that's crass, not to mention a new level of rice-ness.

It doesn't have so much to do with spinning or chirping the tires, but wheel hop. Try a redline dump with lo pro wheels and tires and see what happens (not that I endorse this on a street car). Your wheels will hop like mad because the tire sidewall is too stiff. Think RWD dragster wrinkle wall tires.

I spun the ish out of my tires off a stop light jump. Beat the crap out of a 3000gt mitsu. too. well untill we hit 3rd gear. then he blew me out of the water. I have Yokohama A520's 225, 50, 16. It really depends on the skills of the driver. oh and I didn't hop and it was perfectly dry out. And I am Bone stock!!!!!!!!! no lie you can ask my girl. she swatted me afterwards becuase she hates it when I do that.
Maybe cuz they just got rims and they installed the back 2 one day, and are taking a break from the hard installation.
Expect to see all wheels on when they are re-energized to install the front 2.

short answer : because they are wanabe ricers. and/or they couldnt afford a set of 4 rims/tires.
long answer : real racers go to the track with small diameter light weight rims (or, stock steelies if your cheap) in the drive wheels because
A) they are lighter and have a smaller diameter allong for better ETs, and
B) because if you are running slicks, they dont make them in 17" sizes.

the chirping part..... not geting it
With that guy, i think he may be in process in buying the other two wheels. I never heard that it's racing style to have two wheels and two steelies. Dunno otherwise.
