What should I pay for a new 2002 Civic EX?????
I'm looking at a 2002 EX (4-door, 5-speed, no upgrades) in the CA, East Bay area. The price the dealer came down to was $15,470 before taxes, licensing blah blah. I almost bought it tonight, but wanted to see what you guys thought. Is this?
Thanks,

I don't know about where you guys live, but where I live, 15,500 would be a STEAL for an EX. My Ex coupe auto was 17 and change before that million year warranty that my mom bought. (even though she knew I'd void the warranty)

Remember, right now for those 02s, the dealers want them out now since it's the end of the model year. My dealership had 02 LX sedan manuals listed at 12,995, and i think you'd he able to talk them down from there. Try look around a lil
What is the ticket price for the car? It should be around 17000 for a 5sp I think. You should be able to make it 15000 b4 tax because the dealer will try to lower a lot more to sell the remaining 2002. Also help to wait til almost the end of the month to buy car. Plus the economy is not that well and war may start against Iraq. Just act like you are still thinking and want to leave if they won't lower to 15000. I hope that help. I got 1500 off my LX so you should be able to get down more due to year end clearance.
I must've gotten screwed bigtime on my 2001 EX auto coupe. After financing, I will have paid over 21 grand for my pos!!! Get a LX 5 spd. They're quicker, the ex has a higher top speed, but how often do you plan to be going over 115?
We bought two cars at the same time, both 2002 Civics EX's 2 doors, automatic...
One came out to $15,200 before taxes
The other we paid $14,200 before taxes, it was the fourth car we got from the same dealer so he tacked an extra $1000 off on the second car, both of them are exactly the same except for the exterior color, one is red, and the other is titanium
This was at Ourisman Honda in Bethesda, the salesman was German Vidal... if anyone is thinking of buying one there let me know and I'll see if I can do anything for ya!

If people are really paying $14k for Civic EXs and the MSRP is $17k, that means Honda is punching out way too many of them, and we'll never get good prices on these Civics when we go to sell them.

Invoice with freight charge is ~$15,900 for a Ex sedan w/manual, no side bags. I got mine for 15,996 out the door back in Feb.
Carsdirectcom wanted 16200. So did my local dealer. I played my local aganst one about 20mins away and got for the above price w/mats and mudguards thrown in.
I have no idea how in the heck some of you people got your cars for 1k-1500k below invoice. I haven't read about any factory to dealer incentives for the civic in the past 6 months. Something seems a bit fishy to me.
To answer your question...I would buy it in a hearbeat. That's an excellent price and at the worst, a fair price (meaning your not dipstick and think the dealer shouldn't make any profit).

Sticker on mine was $19150... paid $16950.
But with the 03's out and on the lots... they should be blowing out the 02's. I should think you can get an 02 EX in the 14's.

I talked to a 2nd dealer (Livermore Honda). Same base EX Sedan 5-speed (sticker of $17,010), is $14,899 before taxes and $16,300 out-the-door. That sounds pretty good, but I may try shopping that quote. Quick question: Is the extended 100k mile warranty worth it? How much should I pay for it?
Thanks for all the info guys!!!!

I paid a little over 12 grand for my lx sedan... I think he can go lower
if the dealer doesnt, call some honda dealership and find some which only have like 3 or 4 left in different colors (some you might like) and usually they will go for real cheap, thats what I did. Had to go like 60 miles outside of where I live, but it was worth the money.
Plus, its the end of the year, theyve got the 2003's in
so dont be there sucker of a deal where they make big comssion off trying to sell you a car that came out a full year ago,
If you talk them down right, they'll let you have it. it's nothing fishy to it, I would scan all paper work if I could.

Listen, $15,900 is the invoice price on the exact car you are looking at. There are no factory to dealer incentives at this time. You want to be around the invoice price at this time of year. You may find something a little lower but it probably won't be the color or what you are looking for and who wants a white car for a cheaper price when you had your heart set on black.
My advice is to simply play one dealer aganst another. Trust me, they both want to sell the car and both want to get the capitol back that is sitting on their lot. It's not worth spending several weeks to save a couple hundred bucks. Get the lowest price you can, then take it to another honda dealer. I guarantee that the 2nd dealer will beat the price. They may try to play you a little bit though. Tell them you would rather buy it the first dealer as you have done business with them before. YOu are there because you want to save a few hundred bucks and for that reason alone....You are getting a good price regardless. If you want to spend several weeks or even a month shopping for a $15k car, that is your choice.
But believe me, nobody is getting a car for 1k-1500k below invoice. Not unless it's joe smoe honda and billy bob just bought his civic last week.
Bottom line: What are you after? Did you have a certain price you wanted to pay in the beginning? I bet you did. If you were offered it, buy it and don't look back. Don't be a numbnut and think the dealer shouldn't make any profit and they should sell it to you for less than they paid for it.
