Well Ferrari did dominate as usual - Michael Schumacher and Reubens Barrichello were never really challenged and finished 1st and 2nd again, respectively. Williams and McLaren had mixed results, though. Montoya (BMW Williams) finished 4th, but his teammate Ralf Schumacher had an engine failure at the end of the race. Ditto with West-McLaren Mercedes - Raikkonen took 3rd place, but Coulthard retired with a throttle problem early in the race.

Everyone is talking about the big story - how Sato scored the first points of his career at home in Japan. Eddie Jordan and Co. are real happy about this - with both BAR cars failing to finish, Jordan is guaranteed a few more million dollars in allocation money by finishing 6th in the constructor's standings.

But I guess it speaks volumes about the current state of F1 when everyone is going wild over the fact that a Honda car finishes in the top 6. Almost all of the races this year have been pretty boring, with Schumacher pretty much winning every race and Barrichello finishing 2nd behind him much of the time. Montoya had numerous chances to change this, but he had a bunch of engine problems early in the season and didn't finish several races.

It's been quite a while since Honda was dominating in F1 - right now Ferrari is so far ahead of everyone else that the other constructors have a lot of catching up to do to make F1 entertaining again. Either that or convince Schumacher to retire

On a related note - I'm extremely intrigued to see how Team Andretti/Green performs in IRL next year. Dario Franchitti, Michael Andretti, and Tony Kanaan should represent Honda extremely well in 2003. I think it's pretty sad that Andretti is being forced by Honda and his sponsors to leave the racing series he loves (CART) to a racing series that he has had criticized very vocally in the past (IRL). But hey - money talks, and the IRL is where the money (and fans) are going right now. The IRL was pretty damn entertaining this season, with the final two races in Chicago and Dallas close and exciting from start to finish. With Honda and Toyota joining IRL next year, the IRL will quickly replace CART as the premiere open-wheel racing event in the U.S.

I believe next year F1 season will be more exciting than this year...everyone has been made aware of Ferrari's incredible dominance with it's pilot and car...and the other teams mistake of understimating Ferrari and not putting all that research into their cars design...

Williams has announced they will make a radical change to their chassis model...I think it should be smaller and they should adjust better the weight balance between their chassis and the huge powerful engine they carry...which was mostly their aerodynamic problem with their car balance...wasn't stable enough to keep up with the Ferrari's...

and Ferrari has said they'll use their current car for next year...so that should give the other manufactures a little relief...

besides...FIA is under incredible pressure...F1 has lost a lot of popularity this year and they need to get it back...something will be done...I just don't hope they go back in the evolution ladder and say "all car should be equal" like STUPID NASCAR...to get a good race...F1 is talent, class, reliability, hard work and challenges to overcome, if F1 starts acting like NASCAR preventing the teams to develope into what they can really be...then F1 will totally blow...

F1 would be better off by changing the way the points are awarded, and allow for more slipstreaming... and redesign the tracks for more overtakes...
