Going to get a beater soon...

I saw an 88 Celica GT today. It's red with 123K miles. It needs a radiator (small leak), alignment, and rear struts. It comes with an extra set of wheels and snow tires. The guy wanted $2300 but I talked him down to $1900. It'll be a good running winter car. It runs very well but as soon as I do those three things It'll be running like a champ. I can't wait.

I used to live in Buffalo, and remember those "winter beater" days... Remember it's a long hard winter... make sure your "Beater" is up for it !

civicdude will become famous soon enough
That seems to be alot of money for an 88 celica with the mileage and the problem that you said. My friend had an 87 celica gt hatch with a 5 speed....Less thank 100k miles....and it ran great. He paid $700 for it. Look around before you jump into this car. Winter beater is supposed to cost less than $1000...Hence that is why we call it a beater. I would suggest a 4th gen civic hatch or crx si.....or a Subaru with Front wheel drive or Four Wheel drive....

K3wl, I think I'll do okay in my beast (my civic that is). With aftermarket wheels no less. We'll see how it goes.

Well, blue book on that car is 2800 for my area. It's in very good shape other than the normal rock chips on the hood. It's to be expected here. Everything is good on it except for the rear defogger. I have to sodder the little piece back on it. Everything else is in very good shape. It'll cost me a little over 300 to get it perfect for winter and it'll last me a few years. But you do make a point. A beater should be less than a grand but I will pay it for this car, I like it.

EDIT:Oh, and a 4th gen civic will cost me about the same here. They are expensive here (all cars are for some reason) I'm in Washington State. Anyways, if you want one in as good a shape as the Celica is it's a hard find and it'll be more expensive. I really don't like this area because of that. If I get shipped somewhere else I'll still be able to sell the car for about what I payed for it easily.
