prelude with tiptronic?
Ok, I was having a discussion with a few people about this kid's prelude. He drives a 97' auto prelude with gfx, coffee can muffler, "performance" spark plugs, CAI, lowering springs, and a huuuuge spoiler. He also tells people that it doesn't matter his car is auto coz he's got a tiptronic tranny (or whatever the kind that switch are called.) I didn't think you could get that. So my question is, was this even offered on the 97 lude?

sequential sport shift for honda...sportronic for mitsubishi...tiptronic for VW and ish but yeah...its not all that great its coo tho if you wanna shift but its not the real thing
and porsche is "tiptronic" i think also. anyway, hes confusing it with the fact that autos have 1, 2, and 3 before d so he must think thats tiptronic. slap shifting isnt offered as an option.
custom can be done, theres a 5 litre with a slap shifter that races at hunts point in the bronx apparently.
edit: my fault it apparently was offered as an option

Like WEEEEEEEEE...you always seem to make the stupid comments lately...and its just...well....Tiptronic was offered as an option...okay...and just do us all a favour....and stop posting unless you really have something good to say.....ok dude....no offence..
It's true that an auto Supra is faster than a manual Supra, but this is the rare exception rather than the rule. Manuals are more efficient and suffer less drivetrain loss than automatic transmissions, and that's why 99.99999% of all pro drag racers race with manual trannies.

You people with your "If its an automatic then its slower than stick" attitude... obviously with an economy car like a civic its going to be this way but if you take a look at the new ferrari's you'll notice their autos are quicker than their sticks...
and YES the "tiptronic" shift deal was offered on 97 ludes

Um don't Ferraris use the manumatic touchpad shifter (like they use in Formula One racing)? These manumatics are one of the true clutchless manuals available today. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Ferrari makes a conventional automatic transmission car.

man sequential sport shift on the lude is weak I drove one and its just as slow as an automatic, the big difference in speed made between an auto and a manual is that the manual has a 5 speed and the SSS has 4 speed, if the SSS was a 5 speed it'd be just as fast. And it was in EVERY 97-02 Prelude, it was not "offered" it came standard when you chose the auto tranny, all auto preludes have SSS. The prelude IMO was a testing ground for some of Hondas Acura line.

i'm gonna have to disagree with you on that one. a lot of pro domestic drag racers have manuals, and a number of imports do, also. manual trannys are more for the track cars where you need to downshift when coming out of turns and such.
yes, a lot of drag racers use auto trannys becuase they are far more consistant (bracket racing owns j00). However, these people usually have cars with POWER. so it dorsnt really mayyter in that department, unlike your friends gay *** prelude. tell him auto ludes are for middle aged asian women.

I think you mean to say that 'a lot of pro domestic drag racers have automatics', right? Well I'd like to know which pro drag racers drive automatics. Not trying to be a smartass or anything, I'm just really curious - because I rarely see or hear of any that do.
Thanks guys... now all I have to break his ***** on is his "custom" cracked ground effects, holes in his hood where he took off the "H" and didn't fill in the holes or replace the badge... still a laundry list of crap. Any BTW, he also is getting prices to put a turbo on his STOCK engine. Some people just don't get it.

I was just saying that his engine isn't exactly suited for a turbo considering thats purely what he's pricing to put on. He's not beefing the engine up to handle the extra power. All he has are an off-brand CAI, 'performance' spark plugs, and a coffee-can strapped to the back of the car.
