Right now I am looking at a 2003 Sunburst Yellow Sentra Spec-V or a 2002 Spectra Blue Celica GT. I thought my heart was pretty set on the Spec-V, but once again I am stuck in a rut.
I would really like to own a red or blue 7th gen coupe, but an EX cost the same as a Spec-V just about.
I mean roughly, $17,000 for 127HP, or $17,000 for 175HP/165LB Torque.
I just don't get auto-makers now a days...
I see some pretty clean 7th gens so far on this site and it makes me really want one, but I mean man, the price-tag is a slap in the face compared to what I can get for the same amount of money just about.
Why did you choose a Civic? I honestly need opinions on why you choose the Civic over everything else.
Thanks in advance, I'll be lurking the forum from now on, so expect a speedy reply from me!

well, i chose my civic, because it was 16K, nice turning raduis, good interior, honda reliability and its a nice little car to get me to class and work.
Trophy nissan up the road has a sunburst yellow spec v and it looks wicked! that sitting next to a 350Z....mmmmmmm i'd personally take the spec v. just my .02
good luck on getting the new car and be sure to have a kill for me!

alexlx, im not flamin you im just curious, who buys a car because it has a nice turning radius? it just seemed odd to me that someone would think of that as a main reason as to why the would or would not buy a car. just a question.

I bought a Civic because I had been driving domestic brands prior to that and I've heard a lot about Honda's quality and reliability, and the reviews that I read about the Civic put it at the top of the list for subcompacts. I also liked the gas mileage, 5 star crash test ratings, styling, Honda engine technology and Honda's advancements in low emission technology.
I just checked Consumer Guide online for the car that you are thinking about and it got a good review. It seems like a good value for what you get and you seem to get more than the Civic LX, does it have a moonroof? The Civic EX does.
I am basically satisified with the Civic although they can be a little pricey. One thing that I think is overrated is all the reviews talk about the high refinement of the Civic. My Civic has several rattles that become more pronounced and persistent as the weather gets colder. I know someone who had a Hyundai Elantra and and someone with a Corolla, and I have never heard rattles in either of these cars. Others on this site have mentioned rattles in their Civics, although it seems to be a lesser degree for the 02s than the 01s. I don't consider any 21st century car, subcompact or not, with rattles to be highly refined, although maybe the problem is now under control.
So maybe the Sentra will be a good purchase for you.

Umm I dont know if this is what you are looking for but I got a 94 civic 4 door LX with auto tran. and its still runs great with about 129,000 miles on it. I think a Honda lasts pretty long. I like my civic because its good on gas, reliable and everyone wants a ride lol. I dont car much for speed except for when Im going uphill or going on short on ramps. Just remember to take care of the cars paint. The paint on the roof, hood, and trunk of my car is messed up and i believe its oxidized but it looks terrible. I find it amusing when someone says crap about Japenese cars especially when they say oh no offense to you but ricers this and ricers that. But im thinking WTF, whats rice about my car? my car is stock except for Sony HU, Alpine Speakers, 10 disc changer, and some ghetto chrome rims that the previous owner put on there. Oh ooops TMI..Hope I helped with something

well, civic was an afterthough for me.
I was set on either RSX or the new Tiburon..
but it all came down to insurance... Civic is considerably cheaper.. and I'm already paying 400 per MONTH [canadian].. trying to get a quote for RSX and Tiburon was either impossible [they didnt want to insure me] or gave me insane quotes [700-800] per month.
I said, this is effing BS, I'll drive civic.
it's never about the price. otherwise I would have been driving a RSX...
oh, dont get SPEC V, that thing looks like POS. SPEC V never entered my mind when I was shopping around [a month ago]
I never considered gas mileage.
What would a EX 5-Speed get?
Oh, these are quoted thru my insurance company using VIN off the cars.
Car: 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX
Monthly Insurance: $171.38
MSRP: $24,500
Monthly Car Bill: $341.00
Monthly Total: $512.38
Car: 2003 Nissan Sentra SE-R SPEC-V
Monthly Insurance: $162.30
MSRP: $17,739.00
Monthly Car Bill: $228.90
Monthly Total: $391.20
Car: 2003 Toyota Celica GT
Monthly Insurance: $189.13
MSRP: $17.790
Monthly Car Bill $220.00
Monthly Total: $409.13
Car: 2002 Acura RSX Type-S
Monthly Insurance: $205.28
MSRP: $23,170
Monthly Car Bill: - $286.16
Monthly Total: $491.44
This is will $4,000 down, but not including tax, tag, and title. But I always find that I can haggle the price down enough, where these final prices DO include, tax, tag, and title.
I haven't run a 2001+ Civic EX thru my insurance company yet, I think I'll do that tommorow.

I don't like the interior of the Spec-V, it's fugly IMO. The Celica is way too gurly. I liked the Protege but I wanted an MP3. They didn't have one so I went for the Lx Civic. In retrospect I wish I would've got an Ex. They're comming out with a new Protege by MazdaSpeed so I'd look at that. Better handling, more power. That's my .02

Well sir, I chose a Civic for many reasons. Mostly ECONOMICAL. It's great on gas. My previous Civic did'nt give me ANY problems. Sporty LOOKING. One of the best cars to get into an accident with. Very safe. Quote

Out of the two cars you listed I would take the Sentra Ser Vspec. I agree with the Celica Being girlie, but if you are going to get the celica then dont settle for the GT get the GTS. As for the Sentra Ser Vspec, my friend is getting one next month and another friend already has one. He loves the car but he paid alot more for it. I was actually going to get one before I got my civic, but I didnt want to wait for the sentra to be relaeased and I purchased my civic in June 01. I am happy I purchased my civic. This is my 4th Honda, and 2nd Civic. I had an 83 Honda Accord 5 speed, an 88 CRX SI 5 speed, a 1994 honda civci ex coupe, and my 2001 honda civic ex coupe 5 speed. I have owned 3 domestic cars and I will never buy another. I will tell you that Honda, Toyota, and Subaru have the highest retail value out of any Japanese car. Nissan, Mazda, and Mitsubishi do not stand up to the quality, relaibility, or resale value that Toyota, Subaru, and Honda have. If you want to buy a car other than the Honda, go ahead. If I was to purchase a car other than my civic, I would stick with a honda Product. I would get the Acura RSX type S, or I would wait for the V6 Accord Coupe with the 6 speed to be released. Even though now I dont really like the look of the accord Im sure it will grow on me like my civic did.

Well, i could tell you go buy such and such a car, but what difference would it make if your guts were set on something else? Go test drive the two cars. Go sit in each one for a couple hours. Boost it on the highway. Take it through some windy roads and after a week or a few days of serious test driving, you're heart and guts will lean towards one fav, and then that's when you know that's the car for you. Quote
One suggestion tho, i'd go test drive the Protege 5. The power is similar to the Civic ex, with 130hp/135lbs but the handling is unmatched. The slalom speed on the Spec V buy Autoweek was 46.0 mph while the Pro 5 came to 45.5. So as you can see, power isn't everything. But again, follow you're instincts.

Yeah, I said it once and I'll say it again. Wait for the new MazdaSpeed Protege. It'll be fast and will handle awesome. I would've got an MP3 but they weren't available in the Spokane, Wa. area.
Also, the Celica is not girlie at all, what the hell are you guys talking about? Not to mention its plain disrespectful for the Celica Tuners out there.
