OEM Car Cover
I just bought the 02 Civic OEM Car Cover. I am going to be going away to college and I lost my garage privelages, so I figured it was worth the money if I'm going to have to keep my baby outside for extended periods of time. It seems to be very good quality, but I have yet to try it because it's been raining out. That however is my concern. I actually bothered to read the instructions that came with it, and they say "not water proof. will keep out precipitation, but will not protect against rainstorms" I don't get it. What the hell is the point of a car cover that doesnt keep the rain out? Anyone else have the OEM car cover? If so, hows it working out, and whats the deal with it not being rain proof? Any input on the subject of car covers is greatly appreciated.
I have a OEM car cover, and I use it all the time.
In the morning here in San Diego it can get 'fog-ie/dew-ie'
the car cover seems to have no problem with that, but if it does get wet enough it will soak through
I would say it is safe to say that it is water resistant, but water proof.
I have yet to have it rain in SD since I got the car cover thoguh.
Question: Whats wrong with letting the car get wet? water will not hurt your car.
if you remind me, I could tell you what hapens when it rains; when it rains.

Why do you need it covered? I don't get it. At college, you're basically begging for it to get unwanted attention if it's covered up. You wouldn't care about driving it in the rain, so why can't it sit in the rain? As long as it's waxed, there shouldn't be any problems with it getting sun all day or getting rained on.
Edit... This just dawned on me... You mean garage privelages at your house??? As in, your mom kicked your car out of the garage?
There are coatings you can have applied to the cover so that is becomes more water resistant, but I'm not sure what it's called. Call an auto detail place and see if they can help. Or call a marina that sells canvas boat covers and ask them what the coating is, most of those are waterproof.

He's probably trying to protect it from the sun. It doesn't matter if it gets wet. If you are worried about that just get some water repelant or scotchguard and coat it in that.
I wouldn't recommend a car cover. Too much of a hassle to put on, off, and cleaning. It works good when it's new...meaning very clean inside and out. However when it's dirty and gets really rained on, you'll find some wierd dirt marks on your ride. It comes off...but again, too much of a hassle.
