Late night cruise ends badly ... *sigh*
Alright, so I'm out driving with a friend of mine, actually I girl I really like who's already got a boyfriend (I posted about it a while ago here: Linky) but that's another story. Anyways we're out driving down a 2-lane highway and this friggin racoon runs out right in front of me. Going about 65 (the speed limit) there wasn't much I could do except mould the poor bastard into the pavement. So now I've got this poor animals death on my conscience, plus when we pulled over later on I got a good look at my bumper. Man did I get a piece of that guy, he must've been huge. I cracked a couple of pieces, and put a huge dent in it. It looks terrible, but tomorrow (well, today) I'm hoping to see it better in the light and maybe try and knock the dents out. Ultimately I'm gonna see what the insurance company will cover. But I figure I might as well take the opportunity to see what the price difference is between a factory and aftermarket bumper. Anyone know how muvh a stock bumper costs? Thanks guys!
Cheers!
(Oh, I haven't done a search yet, I'm still kinda pissed about it - so if this is a common question that has been covered a lot, I apologize)

Check around in the marketplace section, you may find one for sale there. That's too bad to hear what happened to the raccoon.

i pulled into a crowded gas station and scared everyone off! lol I've hit three animals with my civic. A duck, a cat (which actually ran into the side of my car while I was driving) and a crow. The only damage to my car was when I hit the duck...the thin plastic thing on the bottom of the bumper is smashed in a little in the middle.

if you are sure you are gonna hit something, move slightly to the left or right so that it hits the tire. it will vaporize the little f u c k before it can do any more damage. happend with a cat and my car, not a scratch, just a lot of fur, and a tail caught between my coilovers.
A factory bumper runs about $160 unpainted. I don't know what painting it would cost. I've hit smaller things than a racoon, but never did any damage. Racoons are pretty big, so it doesn't surprise me that it got its revenge on your car. Check your insurance. I know the'll cover it if you hit a deer or something big, but I'm not sure about smaller things.

And about the skunk, yeah. I think next time I'll take the chance of killing myself by swerving as opposed to smelling that varmit for a month.

Well, I didn't really have any time to do anything, like I said he just ran out just in time to see my headlights up his ***, but I was able to swerve just a little. Didn't do any good though. And yeah, the girl wasn't too happy about it but then neither was I. My stomache was in my throat for at least a half hour.
And yes, it's on my conscience being with another guy's girl, but I've met him and he's a pretty nice guy. Although apparently last night they got in a huge fight about her spending too much time with me, just before we went for a late night drive.
Anywho, I talked to the dealer and he said it would be about $200 unpainted. It sucks living in the middle of nowhere, things are so much more expensive to get shipped here. Plus there's a lot more animals (well, one less after last night). I'm currently in the process of taking the bumper off to see if I can just pop the dents out so it doesn't look quite as obvious. And I wanna get some of that fur off, but thankfully it doesn't smell.

Ok I just finished putting the bumper back on, and you can barely even tell anything happened. Gotta love that molded plastic!! There's a few small cracks, but I can handle that over the huge gaping dent that was there previously.
Thanks to whoever did the bumper removal DIY, that was a lifesaver ..

in 1 week i mowed down 2 skunks at over 60 mph. granted nothing at all was even scratched (thankfully i opted against lowering my car even more than it is stock). Just 2 thumps each time. Car didnt even stink, i think i was going to fast for them to get off good shots.

The good news, as I said, is that once I washed the car, especially the bumper, you couldn't tell I'd hit anything unless you looked really close.
The bad news, it turns out the fat little bastard put a major dent in my AC compressor and I'm prolly gonna end up having it replaced. $300 installed, unless someone has a DIY on it!!
Why isn't road-kill covered under warranty???? Oh well, at least it wasn't a skunk ..
