i raced an automatic 240sx with my standard 01 civic ex (stock with only drop and 18s) twice, once from 40 to 100, then again from stop to 80. the first race i beat him by like 3 car lengths. second race i beat him by about 1 1/2 car lengths.

im gonna say the 240 cause of the torque, the si has like 114 or something and the 240 has 150. And ya know what they say, horse power sells cars, torque win's races.

But if you do lose you can always do a Silvia motor swap

hey guys ive raced him before and that car is very quick for some reason, ive got cold air, header and 2.25 exhaust with a 50 shot of nitrous (even though the wiring wasnt working proprerly at the time) and i only heat him by about half a car in the 1/8
James ( my car is weighed down a lot though)

on a flat out drag, it'll be close. if you go on the track, though, the 240 will own the SI with the proper driver.

yeah he did say a 2000 si, those cars have 160 horses but only 111ftlb (it turns out) of torque. it would probably be a good race but the 240 i think would come out on top

Horsepower sells a car and torque wins a race? That's a really cute saying...now if you'd like to bring out the black board and show us the mathematics backing this expression... Please, if there is an educated explaination behind this expression, I would really love to hear it. Anyone?

2000si guys? blah blah about your torque. The Si, from my experience, will rape the 240 by multiple car lengths.

Sure, I'll try...

A car's torque changes with the rpm. Horsepower is torque at a certain rpm. Now, a car manufacturer will sell more cars that have a high howsepower rating than cars that have low horsepower rating, but a good torque rating throughout the entire powerband. It's just because most people do not really know what torque is. They recognize what horsepower is and can compare it to what other cars have. Now, a car with more horsepower will not necessarily win a race. Let's say that all other things are equal. The car with the highest average torque will win; simply because the car will be accelerating faster most of the time. The car with the higher horsepower rating may be accelerating faster at that certain rpm (at which horsepower is measured), but it will be accelerating slowe at all other rpm's. Happy?

hp is derived from torque. it takes the max torque times the rpm at which this occurs then divides that total by 5626 (im not sure if this is right but i know hp IS derived from torque)

I think its a drivers race but either way I think the 240 has the edge starting off. My friend has a 95 240SX SE and it has good pull.
