2002 SI TEST DRIVE, Thumbs down!!!
Today I drove the 2002 SI and I personally was not impressed. When you get in, the seats are great and hold you very well. The handling was overall very good (much tighter than the sedan), and the shifter was in a very comfortable position. Other than that, the interior felt like a regular CIVIC.
I am not impressed with the looks of the car. I believe Honda would have done a better job on it had they used the coupe as the coupe is a very sporty looking car with rims. The acceleration was way less than what I expected and I (now I don't have a dyno on my butt, but) felt as though my sedan could overall keep up with this car from a stand still, or from a rolling start, but from a 40+ start, no way. This car moved, but still was lacking a lot.
I believe this car is quieter than a sedan or coupe and the engine definitely is quieter.
But again, overall NOT IMPRESSED.

to me it wasnt as great as all the hype made it. the seats are nice. thats all i like. it really doesnt hold up to the "si" title. a coupe wit the electron blue would have been nice. even the dealers hyped it way too much. id like to race on though see if an ex can hang wit an si

I didn't like it either. The seats were better, but I didn't like the up and down feel of the shifter and the rear vision was pretty bad since the rear windown is so small. I'm glad I got my EX, even if it is a little slower. The Si weighs so much, it needs that extra HP to just get moving.
It is like comparing the Si to the Type-R. Everyone here is upset that there is no type-r for 2002. The Si weighs more than our car(EX) but has a bigger engine(which makes up for the difference in weight). But if you compare the Si coupe we all know to the 6th gen EX, you will still see the same differences between the models. The only car to get all the lightened parts, tweaked suspension, shorter gears, and overall racier feel, would wear the infamous Red Badge. Wait until the beginning of next year. Hopefully Honda brings both Red Badges to america to rival the Evo and STi.

With a lot less than the difference in price between an SI and a DX you could have the DX outperforming the SI in every aspect.
btw....since the sales are crap right now, you could get an Si for not that much more than a DX....just haggle a little and you'll be suprised. just a litte tidbit to think about...

i made a post a few weeks ago about the new si. some reps from honda and some other local shops told me that the new sis are slower then our cars!!! guess this is finally coming to your alls attention that they might be right!!
I have yet to see one of the new Si's on the road. They are an embarrassment - Even Car&Driver picked the SVT Focus over the new Si Civic! When was the last time you ever heard of a Ford being picked over a Honda? For my $19,000 I would rather have a an EX Coupe or Sedan or even my LX Sedan and with the money saved there would be a lot of extras you can buy!
Come now, let's not all dog on the Si.
I like the Si. Why? Cus' it makes me glad I have a Civic coupe that looks a lot cooler.
If Honda came out with a Si that was a coupe that looked real classy, I'd be

with envy. Makes me appreciate the styling of my car to see an Si. (Been livin in Bay Area, and LA and I've only seen ONE Si... !)
Yup, my car's not fast. Yup, maybe the Si is a bit faster. It doesn't have that lil red badge. But I wouldn't trade my car for an Si, ever. For the 19 grand to spend on an Si, I think it'd be better to spend an additional 6 grand on mods for my nice lil LX.

And I agree with borland...no way will a DX be able to outperform an Si...not happening, even if you drop a crap load of money into it- but then again with all the money you spent, you could have just started out with the Si and gotten even better from there.
I dont know where you live, but the inflation overlord seems to have vacated the premises. Youll be hard pressed to find an Si still at sticker around here.

Okay, even if the Si was 15k, I'd rather spend 2k on my LX for rims, struts, springs. I agree that I doubt a DX will be able to outperform an Si, not unless a turbo comes out (and even then you'd need more modifications, for suspension, etc. to match an Si) But Si lacks both the style and performance to have any kind of appeal for me.

I can agree with you on Style, but it has more performance than the current DX,LX,HX and EX can ever hope to have.

hahahahahahahahahahahahah!!!!!!!! riiiiiight. To all you people that test drove the Si and werent that impressed...lets just say the car wasnt broken in. When I first bought mine it was a hell of a lot slower than it is now. Granted I have intake, still its nowhere near what it was when I first bought it. Yeah maybe you could be as fast as an Si with a turbo running like 8-10 pounds. But I wont sit here and rant about it, just race a good driver and see exactly how much faster it is than a DX.

yup i gotta say i was not impressed either...i test drove the SI while the dealer had my EX in for the oil change...man i gotta say i didn't like the shifter position...i usually put my right hand on the shifter 90% of the time when i drive but because if this i can't...and also the acceleration well is better than my EX because my EX is a automatic but still weaker than i expected...and the overall exterior appearance i don't like at all...but the seats do look nice tho...haahah...
oh yea its possible to do engine swap with the SI right?
