Nissan Sentra engine woes

It seems like a lot of folks are having oil consumption/burning issues with the new Sentras:

B15 Sentra forum thread on the issue...not very encouraging

Heh i almost got a Sentra SE. Luckily the salesman was an ***, they will have to put me on a 30 day list and i won't be able to test drive it because they don't have one at the dealership.

the interiors are not bad **** - they're cheaply made, and it shows. our cars are, overall, much better made. i have a friend who used to own a '02 v6 altima. he said that thing sounded and felt like it was about to fall apart at high speeds. there's a reason why honda outsells nissan by a huge margin.

I test drove a SPEC-V before i got my EL... If it hadn't been for the "volcano" interior I would probably be driving one now... those things are incredibly fun.

I almost bought a SE-R Spec V, but it didn't handle that great (the Civic matched it in the Slalom test), but damn was it fast. The shifter was also a bit sticky, the Civic one is much better. Never had a problem with Nissans before, Dad had an 85 and 89 Stanza, mom had a 93 Maxima, but passed on an 01 Altima because it just didn't seem well built, Apparently the Sentras are the same way. I wonder if being made in Mexico has something to do with it. Just glad I bought a Honda.

This was some guy's sig over there: 2002 Lemon SER SPEC-V not by law YET... 15+ visits to the dealership and only 2 problems fixed, and more added to by the dealership i love my luck, new tranny( on order ),burning oil, loose shift ****, body kit trim falling off, paint chips up the ***, back seat on order(support beam came through it), rubber stoppers on the gas tank fell off!!!!!!!!!! thats all i wish to list right now...

Who's glad they bought a Honda?

Those people are a bunch of idiots. all they do is flame each other. A forum is for people to come together to talk about cars, not curse each other out

The Se-R's/Spec V's seem to have lots of problems. For some reason they just don't work well. I also test drove a Spec V after i had bought my civic and it was fast and sporty. I didn't want a sedan and I really don't like the look of it. The shifter was also VERY clunky! I do have friends that have them and I belong to b15 as my wife has a GXE. Now the 1.8's and 2.0's are great engines, espeically to the 2.0! They are rare, but they get massive power from boosting.

The reasons why the Sentra is developing a bad track record is because, like Mazda Nissan is partially owned by Ford. Which may mean nothing or something when it comes to quality.
