Trunk caved in!!!

He guys listen to this, one day i tried to close my trunk and it would not close. I tried repetedly to close it. After a few trys it started to dent. finally i got it closed and took it to honda. The guys there said i should have not slamed it so hard to shut it. well for one i had to, to be able to drive it on the road. Nothing more impressive then a trunk flying open on a brand new car. I got to the dealership and they said that the whole trunk and latch would have to be replaced. And that they were not going to cover the damage. It is not my fault that the trunk would not latch. so i have to dish out a couple hundred to get it fixed. I'm still trying to figure out the advertisement that the car is covered 100,000 miles bumper to bumper. i think i have been cheated. What do you guys think?

hmm...I think they should cover it, simply coz it was broken already and yes you may have made it worse, but what did they want for you to tow your car in to them because of an open trunk? sounds to me that your dealer is one of those you don't wanna take your car to for warranty work
careful with those kind of dealers....
just my $.02

I'd say that 95% of dealers are like that... yes you are getting screwed and u must fight to get what u deserve... they like to fight everything.. thats why they blame aftermarket parts when anything goes wrong

damn thats really sux you should have just tied down the trunk and taken it to the dealer to show them that the trunk wouldn't close. you should try to talk to the manager to get them to pay for most of it.

Hey...I had the exact same problem with my Civic. At the dealership the guy couldn't close the trunk once he got it open, then he slammed it down and bent the hook. The, later that day, as I was driving to my Girlfriend's house, the trunk just pops open. i was like, what the heck!?!?! I called the dealership, and they told me to come on down. they gave me a 2002 Accord, 2-door V6 with leather for the three days it took them to get the part. Anyway, to make this story short, Honda is having a lot of problems on the 2k2 trunks, not as much the 2k1's. If your car is a 2k2, then go in there and let 'em have it, 'cause the've fixed mine for free because the PART WAS DEFECTIVE. Anyway, if you have any questions just email me.

Hmmm, i have a 2k2, and sometimes, the trunk wont close the first time i push it down, so naturally i slam it a lil harder once more , and that works, hopefully mine wont get bent like yours, but maybe i should have the dealer look at it.

I have a '01 and I have had problems before, sometimes the cable on the remote latch pinches and that's why it won't close. Be sure to check that first when you encounter this problem.

Where did you ever see anything about a 100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty??? I wish they did have a warranty like that!!!

heh, d00d, if it didn't latch with just a little force, why did you thing a LOT of force (enough to dent it) was going to make it latch?
There was obviously something wrong with it, so you should've stopped slamming it down and just tied the trunk down.

Related true story:
I work in an office. My cubicle is close to the copy machine. One day, the copy machine decides to be difficult and start jamming (surprise surprise). In the process of clearing these jamming fits, the copy machine begins to have problems latching closed. My co-worker (former boss), in an effort to get the stupid machine to stay closed, then starts opening the machine, slamming it down, opening the machine, slamming it down, opening the machine, slamming it down, opening the machine, slamming it down. Finally, after listening to this crap for about five minutes, I walk over and tell him "STOP". I open up the machine, take a quick look at the latch and hook. Hrmm, "I'll be back in a minute". I return with some pliers, bend the hook back straight from a 90 degree bend, and then gently close the machine, latching it closed.
Moral of the story? DON'T APPLY UNECESSARY FORCE

Sorry if I sounded a little harsh. The above is just my opinion and I don't really know how much force you applied to the trunk. Flame me if you want, but I won't respond since I don't like fanning the flames.

How did you know he was the HEAD mechanic? Did he have dirty knees? Man, I crack myself up sometimes...Anyways, they should pay for it. If you bug them enough they will.

The first 2k2 I test drove had that problem, the salesman couldn't get the trunk to close. Needless to say, that was a pretty bad first impression of the 7th gens.
