Yeah, at the dealer they charge $34.xx for JUST an air filter w/ labor included in that price....absolutely ridiculous....so what kind of air filter should i get on my own?.....i think K&N makes a stock one...what other name brand is good?....and in the manual it says to change them at 30k....but that seems kinda late...how often do you guys change them, and what do you replace them with?

fram makes one, i can't remember which number it is... i picked it up at checker (you should be able to find it at autozone/pep boys/etc.) for about $15. just check the product application book (if they have a 2001+ catalog) or ask 'em to look it up at the desk.

i replaced mine at 13,000 mi -- the stock one was looking pretty black. i don't think the fram filter is quite as good as the OEM filter, but for $15, it works, and you shouldn't notice any difference performance-wise.

(i am planning on getting the K&N replacement as soon as it's out; until then, a cheapo clean filter is better than a dirty OEM-quality filter!)

Go back and demand it for less. I went to a dealer and the employee told me it costs $22.00. I remembered from www.hondaautomotiveparts.com that they sold it for around $11.00 so I told the employee that I knew of another dealer that sold it for that price. He had a (fake) surprised look on his face and then with a monotone voice told me its around $12.00 total.

I think buying parts from the dealer is like buying a frickin' car...you have to haggle. Is it just me or is it the same for everyone else?

get the k&n. with the filter cleaner kit available, it's the last air filter you'll ever buy out of necessity.

K&N filter the way to go. Go to your local auto parts store and just ask for the one that fits your car...

Good price and good quality...

Dood there are too many to explain.

first they have you test drive the car and get attached to it, then they run your credit and tell you you can't have it. Then they ask how much you can put down on it, the more you have the more likely they'll let you have the car....but they just want that money...cash in hand is better than what they get through financing.

So you drove the car and fell in love with it. Now it time to ransom the car. They want a fat down payment then they want the most out of the car that they can get...so the sales man talks to his boss in the other room....not....if he is talking to anybody, he's either talking about golf, or what a sucker you are, or some girl he met the other night .....it's a crock...there is a certain limit to how low they can go....they don't need to talk to their boss.

I really don't want to type that much, but you get the picture. I'd avoid dealerships at all costs.

Another friend of mine worked at a dealership as a mechanic and he said don't go for service there....basically all they do is shoot the engine with those temp guns to see if any of the valves are running hot.... check the fluids (I'm not too techy on cars....but I'm trying) and send it over to a lot b1tc# to clean the car... pow there's your $50-70!

dealerships suck. I do my own oil changes and all that stuff. never buy options from them anyway...as most of these peeps can tell you, online is hecka cheaper

dealer is always a rip... its better to get things done yourself, save you trouble(if you know what your doing) and money... may take a little effort but its all worth it... and you can always find a better deal out there, you just have too look... going to the dealer to get things done is like a luxury... like a luxury, it costs more money... its only for lazy poeple... lazy people end up paying more money (like going to the mall is more expensive than driving out to the factory outlets which is way cheaper...)

Handa Accessories charges around $10.50 for a Honda air filter, plus shipping. Fram makes a replacement filter too. CA-8911 made in Canada. I had had trouble finding it, none of the Auto Zones around here have had it in stock, but I found it at WalMart. It was around $10.50. I am not sure if it is as well made at the Honda one, because it has all kinds of appendages and is irregularly shaped but it is pliable and should fit. The filtration material seems similar. I am saving mine for a few thousand more miles. The manual says replace at 30,000 miles but mine is already getting dirty under 10,000 miles and I will probably replace it around 10 -12 k. For 10 bucks why not.

I get my oil changed at the dealer and do the major services like changing the timing belt at the dealer. I could do it myself but 10 bucks isn't worth my time. Plus, when I sell the car, I can command 10% more for it and will have receipts from the dealer to prove the work was done. How many people believe someone when they say they have changed the oil themselves for 100k. Not ever worth the risk.

As far as the factory outlets, if you have the money to buy an $80 ralph lauren shirt, then you should. You save money at outlets because the clothes have defects or basically not of first quality. Also, a lot of stuff at outlets by the designer brands are in fact not seconds. They are clothing that is made to a lower standard than the stuff you find in the local mall.
