OT: I don't like CIVIC"s CLUTCH!
I thought I was a newbie and couldn't drive it properly so I practiced and finally got the hang of it!
FIRSTLY
THIS is what I noticed:
*-----------F====*
Depressing the clutch fully there is ALOT of "useless" length.
from * ----------F
this length is extremely deeper than MOST manuals I have driven in the past 6 months. FROM an 1990 NO BRAND car to JEEPS to CELICA to PICK UP TRUCKS.
This is how my legs look
right foot ************0-----
left foot clutching 0----------
2)
there is a SLIGHT DIP from
F====*
This little DIP is quite annoying because my foot gets caught meaning i cannot fully release the CLUTCH if i was PARKING or GOING ON 1st GEAR.
Well, how does my foot get caught? I measured it and right at an angle \ that little curved dip PERFECTLY pervents my ankle from tilting and releasing it fully. (what LUCK)
There is a solution which is to NOT FULLY depress the clutch when i change gear!... BUT my mechanic told me that it kills the clutch badly if I did that.
SOOO in the end, does anyone have any tips
I AM Driving properly BUT you really gotta see why I am having the problem, it is a factor of both the length of my leg and size of my foot. 8 1/2 shoe size.
SO FAR, I can drive ANY OTHER CAR that's a manual except MINE. hahaha
Then don't shift.
Drive around all day in first
. J/K
Not to attack you or anything, but just put up with it until you get a new car. I hate VW clutches, so I don't buy VW manuals. 'Nuff said

Make sure you have the right shoes, I can't shift well in sandels my size 12 gets caught sometimes. Also you could get a racing clutch if they make one for our cars, it would not have the wasted lenght, but I think they don't last as long

YA!. i usually post in 2 forums. ONE for my neighbours and one for the board.
2k1KonigCivic
not whining, just trying to find a better way to improve driving =) AND I BET because no one said anything about it. THAT"S WHY HONDA is still making these wierd clutches that CAN be much improved.
YES, first mod i would definitely want to make is a Racing clutch. BUT i'm not even sure if that's available.

You think the Civic clutch has a long travel, go test drive a Volkswagen. It takes forever to catch.
Why not try moving the seat up.

I FULLY AGREE!!! the clucth in our cars sucks, i learned how to drive on my car the first day i bought it, i had to drive it to work, the reverse is hard as hell to engage, and yes their is useless clutch, i dunno but i just realy dont like the way it is, i wasnt able to test drive any car with clucth cuz i didnt know how to so i had to buy it. ONe
IMHO, the car feels very similar to the VW. I drove a VW (which has a lot more power), and loved the way the car felt and when I got in my CIVIC I was like OH YEAH!!! I don't know...our clutches weren't meant for fast shifting or racing on them.
