warranty adjustment period?
warranty adjustment period?
Ok... I have had the famous rear deck rattle for a little while now. I think it might just be something loose but I don't know. I have had window tint added to my car, and rear speakers put in and I think the rattle may have started after the tint was put on. I thinking about trying to take my car in to have the dealer take care of the rattle but I'm afraid they will say its not under warranty cause of the tint and speakers. It happens mostly when I listen to music, but sometimes when I hit bumps in the road. Also.... the topic of my post.... My dealer has also told me that adjustments such as rattles and stuff are only covered free of charge for the 1st year or 12,000 miles which ever comes first. I have a few more months before 1 year, but I already have 12.5k miles on it. Am I ok? or do I need to fix this myself? Thanks!
EDIT: The rattle seems to be coming from the corner on the passenger side. The deck is rattling against the pillar over in the passenger side corner.

I have the same problem. It started after I had my car repaired. There is probably a loose screw or the speaker is rattling against the deck. I will find out in about a week, when I car will be once again in peices on my dining room floor.
Here is the deal with warrenties. There is a law that says unless the dealership provides a comperable part for free you are entitled to add aftermarket parts. As far as them denying warrenty for aftermarket parts unless they can prove the aftermarket part caused the problem (which in your case is the tint and the speakers) they are required by law to honor their warrenties.
Chances are you problem with you rear deck is the design of the thing. There is nothing between the plastic and metal to absorb the shock. Therefore the pieces are VERY likely to be hitting eachother. When they took the thing out for the window chances are they broke one of the little plastic clips and that is why the two pieces are hitting eachother. The clips work as spacers more than anything.

My rear deck does the same thing. It didn't start doing it after I had my windows tinted though. It started when I got my exhaust put on. Well, kinda, sorta...It actually started about a month after I had my exhaust put on.

tell them you were driving home from visiting family all the way accross the country, and the rattle happened during your visit, but this was the earliest you could get to them. Maybe put a suitcase in the trunk and McDonalds wrappers on the floor and tell them you just got into town, (for effect). hehe, Good luck.
