Is fixin up my car really worth it??
Dont get me wrong....I love cars, I'm high off cars, I could spend hours under a hood, hours going to car shows and watching speed vision...well u got the point. But I worked hard for my civic and I love it to death but I'm hesitant to spend the extra money that I've saved after working long hours.
I'm sure most of us on this forum are in their early twenties and just feel like "I work, work, work and I still have to work". If I do spend this money its not like i'm going starvee but how do I know that the rainy day isnt around the corner.
I've worked on my civic, I have done some performance modi's and other but spending thousands for the rims, Tv's, DVD players, and a system just sounds like a waste. Ok, lets say I buy all these accesories when I come to sell them I'll loss some $$$.
I guess I'm just trying to find out if i'm the only one out there that feels this way. As much as I would love to I'm not getting the guts to go all out.

Hey dude, I felt the exact same way as you do a few months back. I decided to go for it. I figured I'd spend the money on either this stuff, or other stupid stuff, and also I figured that a person spends soooo much time in their car, so you might as well enjoy it.
I feel the same way but I am too far gone, I love modding and I spend all my money on it, Im very lucky to have an undersstanding girlfriend who takes care of me, I have a plan and need to finish it, I added it up and after everythings done its about 9-10 thousand in Mods that will go on my car....thats a lot of money and I couldve bought a prelude for that much but, thats how I am. And thats at this point, if a good turbo comes out add about another 5 k. But if you arent crazy about modding, and dont feel the urge to spend all your hard earned money on your car then dont do it man. Because I am always broke, Im a college student I pay 200 dollars in insurance a month and work for 6.76 an hour, and I dont get more than 18 hours a week.
Thats why Im happy with my Civic the way it is..looks good with the OEM kit, sounds good with the GReddy.
All my money is poured into the RSX now, at least thats worth it

Thanx guys atleast now I know I'm not crazy being this much in love with anything car related and not sure about fixin my car up
I understand what you're saying, but everyone has different hobbies. My main one just happens to be fixing up my car. Think about it. What do girls do with most of their money? They spend it on clothes and shoes. My brother is in a band and he spends most of his extra money on musical equipment. I think everybody has at least one thing that they like to pour their money into. My dad inherited a farm when his dad died, and he farms for a hobby. He spends alot his money on farming equipment, and that sh@# is not cheap. If modding your car is what you truly enjoy, then mod on.
.Edit: My reference to girls is a general statement. No pun intended to the ladies on this website that like fixing up their cars.

You should save your money with all the mods your gonna waste and get a much better car. Thats my opinion, why waste all the money on a 4cyl. Civic when you can save that money and get like a 300zx, Supra, or RX7...... a fast and good lookin car that will not look riced out when you fix it up.
Because not everybody wants one of those cars. Speed is not important to everyone. I drive 60 miles round trip to work everyday, so gas mileage is very important to me. I could afford an RSX Type-S, but I like having the lower payments on my Civ and the 35 mpg average is very nice as well. So if that's all I want, I'm damn sure going to make sure the car looks good in the process.

I wish I had one of those. I want to mod the civic but more so I want a car that gives me stronger gains for my money. I like the civic as a car that gets me from point a to point b ever time all the time.
i'm modding my car more for looks than anything else. i got the civic 'cause it's not a hassle to own and it looks pretty
saving up my cash for one of those nice SUV's (lexus RX300 etc) later on.

I work 40 hours a week for $7 an hour. All my money goes into car payments, insurance, gas, and modding my car. I have absolutely no problem with it
I sure wish my car was newer

Unless someone has turned sixteen in the last eight months and got a 7th gen, I'm probably the youngest person here. And I know that it wouldn't be a big deal financially if I put every penny I have into my car, but I look at it like I feel I should... Everything in moderation. I'm doing the intake, exhaust, rims, and system for now. Maybe gfx down the line. Do things that will make you feel better about driving your car. If you'd be more confident with nice rims, save and get some... but if you don't think it'll boost your ego or confidence (which is why a lot of people mod their cars) then don't do it. But always do what makes you happy.
i agree with mostly everyone else. this is my hobby. and i love doing it. but for me, its the lack of money
but whenever i do have money, i always save it or buy something for my car. if i dont spend it on my car, i'd probably spend it on **** or something i could get free online

I think it's pretty safe to say that all of us that bought civic's, didn't do it for major horse power!!!
We bought them so we can make them look good!
I dont care that my car will never be that fast, but then again, a couple of weeks ago I beat a 99 SI with my LX! lol, Not too shabby!!

The TRUE answer lies in.. all where you are in your life.
If you are a teen or an early 20-something guy, then yeah man... dump your money into your Civic. You're supposed to! All your friends do. Plus you'll be the envy of all the other ricers!
If you are late 20-something or 30's........ then you shouldn't. Chances are, you are moving up in your work place, or your own business is growing, etc... you are probably looking into buying a house, or are already paying morgage. Your financial wealth will flourish, and by saving money NOW, you will be able to buy yourself that Lexus you've always wanted.
If you are 40 or more, you might as well soup it up too. You are a loser who can only buy a Civic, and will probably stick with it for a good while. You wish you had an Acura, but your pocket book says Civic. Might as well make it look somewhat expensive. Rolling around in your hub cabs won't impress the valet parkers.

No, it's not worth it. Everybody has or needs a hobby of some sort. I have wasted plenty of money on fishing equipment, r/c equipment, guns, tennis, and cars. It's just all about what you are in to at the time. Just don't end up with credit cards that are charged up and a bank account with a low balance. Don't fall into that b.s.. Keep your money in the bank and enjoy the security it provides. No mod can compare to that.
I'm not really into the whole modding thing. I have better things to spend my money on...like an engagement ring. I do want to eventually get some fog lights installed because I like the way those look and they could be beneficial in the rain. I also want to get some alloy wheels of some sort, but I am not sure if that will happen or not. I am in the process of installing my sound system. It is going to be under $1,000.
I have matured in the 10 months or so that I have owned my car and I realize that I can't spend all of my money on my car anymore. I'm not saying that people that spend a lot of money on their cars are immature, but it would be for ME to do it. That's how I feel. Peace.
