6th Gen Hatchback vs. 2k1coupe

okay, i'd like to blame my loss on the extra bodyweight my wife added to the car, but.. i'll be a man and admit when i'm beat down! I cruised through the streets battling traffic with an older hatchback civic that sounded just as loud as my car until we finally met at a stop light and asked if he wanted to run.. of course.. he accepted. The first run he stomped me by two car lengths due to my bogged down start and then i tried too hard to make up for that and screwed all my shifting. Well, he saw what happened.. and told me to turn around and we'd go again. (pretty cool guy if you ask me) At this time i'm looking at his car as it's vibrations are causing people to roll up their windows.. his car was dented up, original paint, stock wheels, no fancy lights or anything... well, we get up to a stop light to give it a better try. This time, i fired off the line with a slight chirp at the tires.. he actually burned a little longer than me. I stayed with him all through 1st.. i redlined, gave the fastest, smoothest shift i'd ever given and nailed second gear... i was halfway through my powerband when i heard him shift into second. By the time i hit third gear he had a full car length on me.. and made his way ahead while i fought.. hoping what little top end speed i had would help me gain slight respect. I was done for. I asked him what he had.. "ex man" i said with what? "intake, exhaust, straight pipe" When i heard how long it took him to shift i thought two things.. One: most logical explanation.. he has done a swap.. b16 or b18.. maybe he has an 8000 rpm like my gsr. or... the idiot took his rev limiter out.. and he has more mods than he claims. Guys, is it possible for an old 1.6 liter hatch to have beaten me by a full car length with only intake and exhaust. My mods are listed below....

i dont think ive ever seen the color "plack" before.. is that an off white?

you are probably running low 16s. a mid 15 second car, which a SOHC hatch with bolt ons can achieve, would pull ~ a car length fairly eaisly IMO.

well i have a 89 crx also besides the civic its a dx with top speed headers an intake full exhaust and aem wires. and to tell you the truth i have wooped *** on a 2001 civic. there are about five of us that chill with the 7th gen civics and the only one who beats the crx has zex on it.

hmm, imo the 2k1 ex on a flat road can get up there. and do it reasonably too. i was bored driving home from my friends when this i pass this ugly old accord with a drop, wheels, and an exhaust. imo the wheels cost > actual car. so he rips by me, im think ok ill bite even though roll-ons arent my thing. we are going about 70, i drop to 4th gear and stomp on him...it was really pathetic i cut out at 115 and he was so far back i slowed down to 60 to wait up for him. hes a cool kid though, seemed nice when i talked to him. i think a little misguided though cause my ex looks stock so the first thing out of his mouth was "damn thats fast, is it stock??" i just said intake and we went on our ways cause talking to another car while your driving = bad idea.

being bored tonight though, i took the "pot o' gold" (my friends call it that...and apparently im the lucky charms leprechaun :laugh out for a couple test runs. ive since learned good clean shifting (fntf kiddies call it granny shifting). thing definately goes quite nicely. launch at 3k not too much wheelspin, shifted at 7k rpm till i got to 4th gear. nothing that would toss u in the back seat but i have a little more respect for the standard transmission 2k1 ex.

a while back when i had only like 10k miles i raced a kids 2k si. he couldnt drive that well so i beat him...so i guess that doesnt say much.

My friend 5th gen coupe(ex) revs up to 8500 rpm and his car seems to get faster and faster. I know he has no money to do anything to his car and he is one who trys to make use of what he has.

I thought 6th gen hatches were slow as he11 even with mods? I thought people only used them for swaps

We have a 6th gen hatchback and then my car the 7th gen coupe. Running the two side by side I kept up pretty well. The 6th gen has substantially longer gears. My gears end at 30mph(1st) 60 (2nd) 90(3rd) and 120(4th). Where as the 6t gen gears end at 40(1st) 80(2nd) 11093rd) and then is governed at 120. The hatchback only had the dx and cx models. There is no way for it to be an EX. They are A LOT lighter and have longer gears which allow for the bit more speed. Intake and exhaust on that car add more hp than on the 7th gen trust me on that. The straight pipe adds a whole hell of a lot too. Where as our cars don't respond well to mods than gen very much did

I have ran against modded hatchs and EXs. I haven't lost yet! The hatchback was a 96 with the I/H/E combo and it was lowered. I had him beat all the way past 75mph. As for the other civics I had the chance to run against, they were slower. I ran against a 99 EX with the I/H/E combo(DC, DC, HKS) and I still came out on top. Maybe my driving was better? I didn't beat them by much, like half a car length.

I'm sure without a doubt now he had more than he was claiming.. my boy that lives here in my apartment complex helped the guy do a b18 swap (GSR) about two months ago. A lot of people around here are pretty shady like that.. they don't like to tell you what they got. I personally don't care.. i'll race anyone.. just to see how well i do. My driving was questionable on the first run, second time around i nailed it. He still stomped me. A modded b18 in a hatchback doesn't give me much of a chance.
