Tinted Back Window
Hi Guys, I just got my car tinted at Ziebart, and frankly I'm not too happy.
1. The guy gut the brake light way too big in the back and I can see a border of light when I look in the rear view mirror.
2. There are several scratches on the tint already.
How did the back of other peoples cars get tinted? What do most tinters do with the brake light?

mine looks fine. I think they took off the brake light put the tint on and put to light back on because my brake light rattles a little now but you can't really hear it. but i can deal with it
hey my mom has her car tinted a 01 mirage and it looks great. they should of cut around the brake light. look at some cars on the road to see how their car looks. if ur not happy with the tint job they did why dont you just go back and tell them to fix it? you paid for it with or own hard earn $$$$.

Going back on Tuesday. He's gonna try to put something around the border so you can't see the light in the rearview. I don't know what they can do about the scratches. Looks like they are fom the squeegee

it depends on the place, some will tint where the brake light is too, they didnt remove the brake light to get to it either cause its a pain to take off the rear deck, not sure how they did it tho, but ya you should have asked before they tinted it. if you look at my members ride you'll see they covered mine..

I don't anctually mind the cut around the brake light because the back tint is so dark. I do hate that they left 1/2 " of light coming in. Hopefully they fix it. Did they take your back deck off?
Mine was tinted and they cut it perfect around the brake light. If your not
happy with how it came out have them redo it. If they don't do it put a brick
through there front window late at night.

Again, I don't really mind that they trimmed it, but they trimmed it too big. The scratches are on the drivers window, and there is a grain of sand in the passenger window. A pretty $hitty job. I wouldn't recommend Ziebart to anyone.
mine was cut around perfectly...that was the 1st time , until someone busted my whole back window and they keyed my car..and hit it with a rock on the trunk...then...the 2nd time the guy that tints the windows for me, he took off the back panel and tinted it all the way down..not like i need that brake light i have way too many and im about to get a spoiler so..i should be alright

My shop tinted the whole back window...took off the rear deck but couldn't get it back on, the bastards... But they did a damn good job on it. I had to take the complete rear of my car apart just to get the rear deck back in. Sounds tough, but it was really simple and not even that time consuming. I had to have the WHOLE window tinted since the rear deck brake light isn't even on (spoiler light).

Chances are if they 'redo' my defroster will no longer work. Ziebart Calgary won't be doing my next car. I think tinters need to be more detail oriented than this guy was. His excuse, 'my squeegee wouldn't fit'
One of my best friends used to tint cars for his own company, man I wish he was in the same city. He could tint! Fast and perfect (4 cars / day)
That's what you call a pro. All the dealerships in Edmonton wanted him to do their cars...

Also, at first I was pissed that they cut out my brake light, but now I'm glad for two reasons.
1. I can pass inspections easier.
2. Since the light shines through, cops are less likely to stop you because of the illegal tint.
Just my $0.02
That's a good point about the defroster... if they pull the tint off there's a chance they'll damage it. I would definitely complain very loudly. At least get them to fix the front ones, or refund some or all of your money.
I like my whole window being tinted... I think the light cutout looks kind of

here's my advice:
1. Get ur money back, tell them to remove the tint, and goto "Tint Master"($129 for back 3 windows, or $169 for 5 windows).
2. Before u goto "Tint Master", remove ur rear deck using this DIY
3. PM me if u need help removing the rear deck.
4. Bring it to "Tint Master", let them tint it right.
5. Put ur rear deck back on.

Its law here unless you have a spoiler with another brake light they have to leave the tint out around the brake light. But guess states really do differ unless you talk the tinter into doing the brake light

Get a piece of cardboard and cut it to about 8 inches long and 2-3 inches wide. Then wrap a paper towel around the end and put some window cleaner WITHOUT AMONIA on it. There ya' go!

I would be willing to bet if this guy isn't holding up a good reputation, he will lose his job eventually. Tinters get their word out via hearsay... people are careful with their cars, and want to take extra care to find someone they can trust with their windows.
My tinter did a fairly decent job of my rear window. He also tinted over the brake light (as here it isn't illegal to tint over it and I didn't have a lazy *** tinter ). This did not involve removing the rear deck or anything, he just put a little effort into what he was doing and it turned out great. It looks MUCH better without a big gap ih the tint around the brake light - especially when your interior is tan
