Legal or not??
I was under the impression that it was illegal to change your steering wheel and replacing it with an aftermarket one because you are modifying safety features (removing airbags). someone please clarify this for me. I live in Cali...if this is a state law or something.
You cannot, I repeat cannot modify your car to alter safety equipment in a way that its not there anymore, for example if you get new seats and u have Side Airbargs you need to replace the seats with ones that also have side SRS etc. I'm in love with the MOM steering wheel in the WRX I think I am going to ge tit you can get them used for 300 dollars from Scooby owners on their forum, it has air bag and feels oh so good, i think th ehonda steering wheel is cheap and doesnt provide me with enough gripping powaz. I do not know for sure but you will probably have to go to amachine shop and have an adaptor manufactured to fit the MOMO wheel in place of your OEM one and also splice in the SRS because I am sure the harnesses arent identical.

It is Legal... however you are required to notify your insurance company of the changes..they will also raise your premiums.. add a deductable.. and greatly lower your personal injury insurance.

The Fed. Gvt. requires all cars built after 1994 to have at least one airbag standard. I'm not aware of anything that says you have to keep it, only that it is there when you buy it from the dealer.
I asked a cop about this a while back and he sayed it was illegal to change you steering wheel to one without an airbag if yours is equipped with one.......Hmmmm. I wonder what happens when you buy it used like this....
