found rsx engine fs cheap, couple ?'s
i found someone selling a rsx type s engine for 2k. i asked him all the questions like why he was selling it and if it runs perfectly and such, and i'm waiting on his reply still. the engine comes with the trany and ecu. i read through the htown posts and all that, and it seems like a helluva lot of trouble. but the price is amazing so i want it sooo bad. so if htown or someone else could reply and tell me if this is worth the time and money i would appreciate it. and how's the car doin htown? well, to buy it from me the engine, ecu, trany and drivesharts, would run about $6600 for brand new stuff, so if you can get it for 2Gs for just engine tranny and ecu, id go for it!

yeah, the deal sounds great. the engine has 4xxx miles on it. i'm still waiting for him to reply on how he got a hold of the engine. i would do it if install was under 1g and not a huge hassle. that's why i would like to see htown's postion on this. maybe he could tell me how they finally got it all to work and stuff. he said the mounts had to be custom fabricated, he needed a crossmember, new immobilizer and several other things. Unless you know someone that can weld mounts and such Id hold off.

i have no idea why it's so cheap. he's gonna send me pictures today or tommorow. i don't think he realizes how much these engines are worth. he's even asking me if the 2k price is good for me.

Well, we know for a FACT that install will be well over 1G. Htown's comin' out of pocket with 2G for labor and about another 1G for extra parts if I'm not mistaken. Still, you'd come out at 5G total, which is less than Htown paid for the MOTOR . . .

damn, i can't afford 5k. i thought 3k installed would be good. maybe htown and his shop could tell me what problems they ran into and the solutions so it wouldn't be that hard.

well i started reading part 1 got to around 30 pages and asked myself when this was gonna end. it seems like htown went through more trouble than that engine is worth. that's why i'm not sure about this, even though the deal is amazing. the trouble ain't worth it for me.

I hear you. But hey, even if you did buy it, you could probably sell it to someone here for a profit of at least 1G. Hell, I know I'd buy it from you for 3G's, if I had the loot.
$2k is reeaaaally low. Older used engines usually go for around this. I know it sounds kinda funny and all, but you really better make sure its not stolen or you'll get screwed if you ever try to resell it. If its not, then definately buy it and either use it, or sell it to someone that has the time/patience/money to do the swap.

As long as the engine is legit, I'd go for it. Even if you don't decide to swap it in, you could easily resell it for $3k or $4k. The probability of K20A2 engines dropping below $4-5k anytime soon is extremely low, seeing as low-mileage B18C1 and B18C5 longblocks are still commanding around $4-5k. Just make sure you get the shift linkages, axles, tranny, ECU, etc. and ask him if he can throw in the crossmember and immobilizer system as well
To answer your original question - yes, the swap has been a monumental pain in the butt. IB and I have definitely learned a lot (mostly the hard way), so hopefully the next person who does this doesn't have to wait as long and go through all of the same headaches. As for the big question 'Was it worth it?' Well, I'd wait until after everything is finally done to answer that one
