need suggestion!~!what car to get for 13K
I'll be getting 13K from the insurance, and i'm not planing to buy an old car and swap out the engine, so i'm thinkin
1) 97+ Eclipe Gsx
2) 96+ Subaru RS 2.5
3) 95+ Nissan 240sx
???
thanks in advance
first off you have 3 different car manf. listed there. all three of those cars (and engines) are completly different.
do you want all wheel drive, rear wheel drive, or front wheel drive. because they all drive differently. are you going to be racing? what kind of mods do you have planned, simple bolt ons or major overhaul?
it sounds like you are in the same boat as most of us, and don't have truck loads of cash to spend on cars. so my suggestion is this:
there isn't as much aftermarket support for the 2.5RS, my guess is you want the 240 swap out the sr24de engine for the SR20DET (turbo!!)
personaly (if you have the $$$) id get a SR26DETT (jdm skyline R33 engine) and cram it in there! it can be done with enough cash and lots of nissan jdm no how.
other wise you have the Eclipse GSX-T (personal opinion: its over done) good engine, 4wd, and a factory sweet body. plus you can get some awsome kits for that car. good amount of aftermarket support, ect...
being the honda guy i am loyal as hell, i have had 3 hondas, and my chick drive honda too!
my suggestion is 99-00 honda si/ hatch with b16a3 or b18cR engine swap the itr will cost about a grand more but simple plug and play work. JR supercharger and some other bolt on goodies and that bad boy flies!!!!
or if you really want to do it up JDM style import a b16b Civic type R engine!!! my pants are wet just thinking about it!
One thing you have to think about when you decide that you want to build up the car of your dreams, it will be in the shop alot, ALOT! you will need alternate means of transpo. even if you have someone else do the work, at least for the first few months your car will be in the shop frequently. rarely ever does a engine swap go with out atleast one thing to send it back to the shop.
i have been a honda guy since the first time i saw the CRX (my dream car) so honda is always been my choice. but my next in line is deffinatly nissan. the SR20DET and SR26DETT and SR30DETT are some of the best engines ever built
along with the chevy 357 and 454 big blocks (got to shout out to my domestic boys)
you have to decide on what kind of racing you want to do and the pressure you are going to put on an engine. the SR20DET is good about taking abuse the B18CR is a little more finiky it like finess and smooth transactions. the GSX engine is even more finiky, but the 2.5RS engine is good about taking abuse too but not as much as the SR20DET.
so pick your weapon wisely grasshopper, for it may be your demise.

there's also quite a bit of goodies out for the 2.5RS. just because there isn't as much as for, say, integras, that doesn't mean there isn't plenty. look overseas for your best bet. IMO the previous generation RS looks better than the newer ones, including the new WRX!
the stock 240sx engine is a KA24DE, not SR24DE. 240's are very beautiful cars IMO, you wouldn't go wrong getting one of any year.
the skyline engine is the RB26DETT, not a SR variant. I've never heard of a SR30DETT, maybe you're talking about the 300zx/maxima motor - the VG30?
the eclipse is a GSX, not GSX-T. you're also going to be hard pressed to find a GSX at all, let alone one for 13k. GSX's frequently sell for around 18, at least down in texas. you could get a GST (turbo, FWD) probably for around 11-12k, however. I'd definitely recommend getting one newer than '97 unless you plan to swap out the rims and add a kit right away.
as for good cars around $13k, I agree with a 240. you can get a 97-98 (with the s14 front end) for that price.
good luck finding an older 2.5RS, tell me if you find more than one!
ditto with a GSX, especially one for 13k!
have you considered getting a b18c swapped 6th gen EX? it's not a hard swap and it's pretty affordable. I like white 6th gen coupes, anyway. I hear eclipse insurance is pretty tough, and 240sx's are fairly bad also. how about a 98-99 accord coupe? you can get a EX for around 13k, and a EX-v6 for maybe 15. you could also get a 3g eclipse GT (the new v6 ones) for probably about 13k, because those seem to depreciate extremely quickly. how about a '99 celica? I don't know how much those run, but they look pretty nice when they're kitted out. the most important thing really isn't "potential" or "how fast it is", but it's what you feel most comfortable with. sorry to hear about your 7thgen though, good luck with a new car!
my bad i read his post wrong i thought it said he did want to swap, my bad!
and the b16a3 swap was for the hatch not the si because that is the si's engine. any goof in a monkey suit should know that.
no flames please, i just read it wrong and went off on a tant, my bad.
then in that case i perfer the 2.5RS with a SC and some bolt ons check out Sport compact car they did a complete build up of that car they raced it in a couple american rallies
they did an awsome job
again, i am sorry for the confusion.

WOW!! thanks guys this's cool you guys pretty much have the same ideas as myself. I didn't list any Honda/Acura cuz i'll still have my 2k1. I'll be getthing 13k cuz my bro totalled his 00' ex ( tried to drift..got it on tape too ) LOL ( Initial D fever ) . as for what i'm looking for.....either AWD or RWD but might end up with another Honda anyway. I'm not lookin to race it or anything, i just wanna drive a cool car with body kits. I don't care if it looks fast but isn't. oh well, imma start looking around to see what i can do with 13k thanks for all the suggestions
as for my 2k1...i dunno...save up for low boost turbo 5psi? 40hp? ( just want n-tercooler look and BOV sound ) and shoot 75 shot of NItrouzz and blow the hell out of my D17 muahahahha...i'm gonna put a camara on my dash to wait and see my pistons fly through the hood..LOL......no!....but what i really want it turboed for show with real power from Nitrouz
