yet another reason to hate GM products (and the NHTSA)...
three weeks ago, a 1997 chevy astro burned along interstate 35 near cloquet, minnesota. no one was injured, fortunately.
three days ago, a 1994 chevy astro caught fire in blaine, minnesota. the driver and one child escaped, but 3 young kids trapped inside burned to death.
---
the 1995 chevy astro had been recalled due to a problem with its fuel system, which had been the cause of several vehicle fires nationwide.
between 1983 and 2000, there have been 95 fires involving chevrolet astro vans.
and here's what i find the most offensive: "The paper trail on vehicle fires of all kinds, particularly those that aren't the result of a crash, is thin to nonexistent, making the statistic difficult to track." -- NHTSA. (for the love of god, can SOMEBODY explain to me ONE THING the NHTSA DOES TO BENEFIT HIGHWAY SAFETY!?!? how hard is it to track vehicle fires, which are pretty f*cking rare to begin with!?)
---
thanks, chevy and the NHTSA. your sh*tty lack of organization and cost-cutting just killed a 19-month-old, a 3-year-old, and a 4-year-old, two of those children belonging to a minneapolis fire department captain.
i hope someone at GM rots in hell for this.
---
sorry, i just find this sort of sh*t VERY frustrating.
