I'm not 100% sure on this, but I heard form VW that they where making the 2003 Golf GTI with the new Passat W8 engine in it. Think about it. A hatch back with a 270 hp and 290 ft lbs of torque small block V8! And its supose to be front wheel drive. Just thought I'd let you know

my friend has a 99 1.8t GTI, and that thing is crazy. couple weeks ago he ran a 14.8 stock at the track!

the 99' GTI 1.8T's only had what 155hp and the new 02's have 180hp. and if that 99 ran a 14.8 stock i dont wanna know what my friends 02 can run.

yah its crazy. he was running mid 15's last year. i dunno if he improve his shifting or whatever, but sure running faster now.

GTI 1.8T is hot.. it can be chipped to get like 195 hp, and 230 torque!.. run 13's all day with a new ECU

yup the chip really help and my friend's jetta 1.8T was so fast after he chipped it.
and my next car will be a 1.8T for sure...gotta love the blow off valve sound.

I almost bought a gti when I was looking at the civics. I like the looks and love the interior. However, I won't buy one. I will say this, if they bring their quality and reliability up to par, I'll be a proud owner of a vw.

Look at it this way, a VR6 GTI is around $23k and up now. So just figure more when you put more stuff on it.
