Strange idea
Strange idea
Hi guys! Anyway been wondering what to do with the core of my D17A2 engine since swapping out in my DD. Was wondering if anyone has ever put a D17A2 into an 89 CRX and if it is even worth it or possible? Open to any and all suggestions and harassment, lol.

Re: Strange idea
I once had a spare D17 laying around. Considered building a sort of D17 powered go-kart or sand rail kinda deal, but never got around to it (nor did I have access to welding equipment or anyone with welding equipment). Idea was to mount it over the rear axle on like a 300-500 pound chassis for kicks and giggles. I don't know about you, but 127bhp sounds like stupid amounts of fun in something that would've theoretically been less than 1000lbs.

@xRiCeBoYx Well now that is an interesting idea, as my neighbor has a smallish rail frame and access to welding equipment and this sounds like a lot more fun than sticking it in the old CRX. We need to get together on this and brainstorm ideas if he goes for it. 😝

Re: Strange idea
So.. the only downside is that the D17 has a crap ton that is controlled from the ECU. Ignition, for one (no dizzy like older engines), and really, that'd be the big one. I mean, not a huge issue, but something to consider. That, and immobilizer bypass. Essentially, look up ways people installed remote starts to see what methods they used.
At the end of the day, you just gotta figure out what's gonna make it run not in limp mode and you should be golden
edit: either that or go full standalone ECU on it like an AEM EMS or Hondata KPro (which... technically is a chipped/rewritable K20 ECU for the D17..). Would still be stupid fun, regardless

Re: Strange idea
Well the rebuild is underway and and as you can tell there is a lot to do after losing the rear main and lots of burned oil along with replacing the bad connecting rod from the #1 cylinder . Will keep y’all updated on how this thing progresses.
Re: Strange idea
Well a couple of pics just cause. Lol. I knew it was bad just didn’t realize how much “stuff” had built up on the block but me and my ADD could not see that and not do something about it.
