Convincing parents to let me buy a certain car
Convincing parents to let me buy a certain car
I’m, 15, getting my learners license soon and I’ve really been interested in cars, and driving in general and I want to learn more about them. I love the looks of older cars like from the 90s-00s and I’m thinking about getting either a civic hatchback, or Acura integra. I am aware that these cars are getting old and can have issues, but I also want my dad to teach me how to fix it and do the maintenance. My parents aren’t so keen on this, but I just want to learn and have fun with a car, what do you guys think I should tell them?

If your dad's a mechanic like you said previously, you won't be able to convince him. You can only convince people who know practically nothing about cars. I'm assuming it's more based on the safety aspects of things because the older civics are glorified tin cans. Having owned both ('95 hatch and a '98 teg), the Integra is a MUCH better car. I had the GS model so it came with a power sunroof and leather seats. If it wasn't so rusty, I'd probably still be driving it. Had 280k and ran amazingly well. I see nothing wrong with having that as a first car. It has airbags, bulletproof engine and trans, and is just an all around fun car.
It ultimately depends on why your parents are saying no to an old car, though.
