Dumb@ss Files Vol. 1

Just a little story i thought some of you may get a kick out of!!

well today i was at a friends house and some of us were helping him install his new front bumper on his 2000 EX. Well he finially got the bumper off and was sitting with his legs under the front of the car, just talking to us. and there was a fly or a bug that kept buzzing around his ear. needless to say he was getting a little frustrated with it. Well he had just taken the shock absorber thing off, if your not familiar with this there is an iron bumper thing inside your front end that has a long styrofoam piece on it..its supposed to absorb the impact of a small fender bender, anyway he had just removed it exposing the iron bumper when the bug landed on it...around the drivers side...she swiped at it and it flew off, then came right back...so he grabbed a hammer from the nearby tool box, rared back, and amazingly hit the d@mn bug. HOWEVER....as soon as he hit it there was a loud bang and then the sound of glass cracking!!

me and my friend start to laugh our @sses off....he stands up...looks through his front windshield only to see that his air bags are deployed and there is a crack in the windshield on the passenger side. aparently he hit the bumper in just the right spot with enough force to blow those babies....He wasnt a happy boy!

so if your gonna be playing around with your bumper...keep hammers away!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Which is why Mechanics always disconnect the power to the airbags before touching the front bumper.. ..

Live and learn..

How hard did he hit the bumper? I can't imagine how the airbags deployed simply from someone slapping the bumper. I thought it took approximately 12-15 MPH of imapct to deploy them......

trust me....he wacked the bumper with that hammer pretty darn hard...

and about the 12-15 mph impact to deploy...thats after going through the actual body bumper, shock absorber and then into the iron bumper...now just the bare bumper, it aparently doesnt take much
