I had a rental 2001 Civic Sedan, while my Coupe was in the shop..........

Needless to say, I tried this tactic myself, while drag racing a bunch of kids in a Gutless--I mean, Cutlass Supreme In theory it makes sense, but in practice, there was WAAAY too much wheel spin. I had better luck just planting my left foot on the brake pedal, right on the gas, and releasing the brakes on green... the car jolted off the line with a little tire chirp.

Smmmmomked that Cutlass!

i can see him posting later that his tranny is dead and it is the civic's fault

neutral dropping is the fastest way to ruin your tranny...i've witnessed a gran prix's tranny literally snap itself in half when the input shafts self destructed breaking through the tranny casing which then siezed the car's engine

if you really want to launch an automatic you do what's called "brake torqueing"...this is where you leave the car in gear and push down the brake pedal and rev to 4-5k rpm...this will give you a better launch and won't hurt the tranny as much as a neutral drop
