Annoying Cops

well I went out for a drive today around my college and was soon met by a cop. He followed me for about 10 miles or so, running my plates and when I came to a stop light he was right on my arss. I thought about rolling back a few inches before I shifted, but thought it probably wasn't a good idea. Well, at least he didn't pull me over, but he sure was pissing me off, riding my tail in a 40mph zone. I think he was just having some fun, on my account possibly waiting for a reaction. What the heck is their probs?? Just needing to vent-

Damn..had the same thing happen to me. I was driving my girl home at like 2am. I make a turn and the cop blows his red light and just follows about 5 feet behind me. I wanted to speed up to make some room, but I was going right at the speed limit already. Made me miss my next turn and I felt like I was gonna get into an accident..trying to keep my eyes on the road, at him, and my speedo at the same time. Finally had to turn into a parking lot to some store and he kept going.

I'd just report the car. If someone even calls my precinct and says "car so and so is doing such and such" and hangs up, we can get in trouble. The person doesn't have to give a name...but that is my department, I'm not sure if other departments do that. I've followed people, but not for 10 miles, and I usually have a good reason.

LOL, was it a Campus Cop? I hate those damn campus cops that think they're all high and mighty just because they are "rent-a-cops". One time I went to this car show at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette stadium. Of course, they had campus cops directing traffic and trying to look all hard. Well, I left to go get some wax for my friend and I accidentally peeled out a little. The new pavement and crappy firestones just couldn't connect. When I came back into the parking lot, this one cop was eyeing me down big time. As I drove past him to show him my parking pass, he said to me, "I don't want to see you peeling out anymore. I should give you a ticket for that ****." I thought that he must have gotten his panties in a knot from all the imports that must have been peeling out throughout the day, so I said, "Ok, sorry about that man, it was an accident." Well, he gave me that "yeah right" look and I went on with my business. When I leave to go home, he is watching me like a hawk and makes sure to tell me one more time that I better not peel out. When I get to the road, there's no light, and I have to somehow merge into this massive, never-ending flow of traffic. So I see an open spot, and I creep into the street and try to gain speed as quick as possible without spinning my tires. Well, by the time I get up to about 3000rpms, I gun it because there's no way my tires will spin, and this big @ss truck is fixing to make contact with my rear bumper. So I redline it in first, then shift into second, and of course, my tires spin when I get into 2nd. Well, this cop is still watching me and of course this pisses him off because he thinks I did it on purpose. My friend was in line right next to the cop and he called me and said, "Man, that cop just got on his radio and he's giving out a description of your car." So when I'm out of sight, I turn off into a neighborhood and make it home down the back roads.
Well, one would think that the whole thing is over, but no. About a week later, I'm leaving campus to go to work, when I see a campus cop behind me. When I look a little closer, it's the same cop. This guy is about my age and you can tell he thinks he's a bad @ss. He follows me for a little while, waiting for me to make a mistake. We're on a two-lane one-way street and he's the only one behind me. Well, I get tired of waiting for my lane to go, so I put my blinker on, and switch lanes. Well, this guy follows me, and pulls me over a mile down the road. I stop, take off my seatbelt, and step out of my car. He said that he was gonna give me a ticket for Impeding the flow of traffic, and not wearing a seatbelt!!!! Well, I argued with this guy that I had my seatbelt on, and I wanted to know when I impeded the flow of traffic. He said that he didn't see me with my seatbelt on, and I told him to go back and watch his video so he could see me take it off. He refused and proceded to write me a ticket for the two offenses. (a total of about $175) He handed me the ticked and just before I got in my car, he said, "And next time an officer tells you not to peel out, listen to him." I didn't even argue with him. I told him that it wasn't good to be so corrupt, and later on my lawyer had a long talk with him. I got the ticket fixed and I'm sure that probably pissed the cop off even more, so I'm still watching my back.

Damn, that's a long story. Sorry!

Ive had that happen to me b4 too. I even got pulled over once on the account of my "tag was expired". It was two young guy cops. Needless to say my tag had been renewed 5 months prior to the day they stopped me. The kept jokin around with me. "Oh what a nice car" blah blah blah "I'd like to take this puppy for a ride" blah blah blah "Oh, I'm gonna keep your license as a souvenir" blah blah. Kept me there for 20 minutes. Told me to get my tag checked out. Which I did the following day and it had been ok since i renewed it. Buncha idiots.

AEMcivic.... campus police are not "rent-a-cops" they are real departments.... and as far as following him 10 miles I think you are making a little more than it really was because he prob. would have been out of his jurisdiction..... a few guys at my department worked for campus police for a little while to get a start and they are some of our best officers so dont trash talk them

I dunno at my school the Campus police seem to just be security guards. They don't carry any guns and they say when there's an emergency to contact them and then they will contact the "real" police.

Yeah, from what I understand, some colleges do have the authority to have their own police departments. For example, New York State University Police have power of arrest, power of issuing summonses, and carry guns. They attend training at the New York State Police Academy in Albany.

Thats not completly true about campus cops, if it is a public university then yes they are real police for the most part, but if you go to a private college like me (st. thomas in mn) then the campus "poilice" can't do as much. My friend "bhayes82" who is a memeber on this site was driving done I-94 and a rent a cop tried to pull him over with the lights and everything.

hopefully to clear this up, this was not my campus security, but the NY police. And yes it was close to 10 miles cause I was coming back from a car audio place on the outskirts of town, back to campus and he pulled off when I entered campus. My guess is he was just bored and wanted to hassel me.

In New York State, a private university also has the authority to hire officers and allow them to handle matters on campus, however, they are responsible for paying for training that would conform to the standards set by the New York State Municipal Police Officers Training Council. For the most part, however, private universities have "public safety" officers which are nothing more than security guards. They must contact the police for arrest situations, etc. Public universities however usually have sworn law enforcement officers on staff. A sworn officer may arrest, make a traffic stop, etc. Security guards are civilians and are not authorized to perform traffic stops or issue summonses returnable to a traffic court, arrest, etc..they possess no "peace officer" power.

I go to UNCC and the campus cops are actually police officers from what I understand. They respond to recks and incidences close to the campus as well as campus problems.
