my 96 honda civic ex manual transmision won't start

I need help, my car won't start, but I tried to starter in 2nd gear and start and runs perfect, just won't start with the key. I tried to bypass the starter but only the bendix work and no crank

Push start?

I tried to bypass the starter but only the bendix work and no crank
Does this mean you got the loud clunk from the starter but no cranking?
If so, I'd check for power at the large battery cable (on the starter) while trying to engage the starter.
If that big cable loses its power, you should have a bad connection somewhere with that big cable.
If power isn't lost, you should have a bad starter.
