WARNING TO ALL
If u have colored lights on your car like in your licence plate lights replace them to the clear because if u get pulled over it will be an expensive lesson. I have a light blue tint to mine and i have had them over a year and a half and today i get pulled over and get a citiation for 84 dollars. I got pulled over at 540 am and paid the ticket at noon and even replace the bulbs back to normal and they still mad me pay. That is the dumbiest sh#t i have ever seen. An then they didnt even have my citiation in the computer i had to wait for them to enter it and they couldnt find a code that went with the ticket but said that it would fall under improper equipment use. So watch your selfs. Oh i passed the same cop the morning before and he didnt say anything then.
I'm sorry you had a negative experience, but I have pulled people over for that as well. In an emergency situation, I have to be able to obtain a license plate within seconds. A colored light can make it more difficult to get if you are not up close to the car. The good thing is that an equipment violation is not a moving violation and really won't have any adverse effect on your license.

Yes, I do always catch those threads. Do keep in mind I spend a lot of time in my car, which has a nice laptop, instant messenger, Internet Explorer, etc., and when it's dead, it's dead, nothing to do. I like posting better than talking the night away on my cell phone.

Dayum, so you just sit in your car and post the night away?
That would give me something to do at red lights.......I could catch up on my posting. lol
Sorry to hear about your ticket. Sounds like that cop was just having a bad day.
I haven't gotten one yet, but my lights are a cleaner white than the factory lights and they actually make it easier to see the license plate so hopefully I won't have any trouble.

Yes, the newer cars have internet access. A little slow, but it has it. The older cars do not, just a little terminal. See the attached pic, in it is a Motorola touchscreen computer that I use for license and reg checks, wants and warrants checks, Instant Messenger, and posting here sometimes

. My brother got a DUI and had to do his community service working at the Sheriff's station CLEANING their cars..I guess its better than picking up trash on the freeway...He did mention most of them did have laptops though... At the end of one of his cleaning days, one of the cops mentioned to him how they get free carwashes across the street...Oh well, still better than picking up trash IMO....
Yeah, I was going to say it should just be a (defective vehicle) or (equipment violation), so it really shouldnt affect your record goes because its not a moving violation. Although your out some $$$ for the ticket, you should feel SOMEWHAT lucky.

i think in NY state - u can just go to the police station within 2 days of equipment violation ticket with the car fixed and they will null the ticket for u.
Hey QuickSilver - how likely is it that you would get pulled over for having clear white front turn signals instead of the standard amber ones in NY? I'm on LI and I see cars with them all the time (sometimes even blue blue turn signals), and the cops never seem to care. According to the state law tho - they are supposed to be amber.

That is correct. It is called a 375 ticket, 375 being the section which deals with colored lights and most equipment vioations. If you go to any police station and can demonstrate that you corrected the item, they sign off on a slip which can squash the ticket.
It is not very likely, but if the cop wants to stop you they can use that as cause to stop you. Some of the guys on my squad stop for those, I generally will not.

<< at least the cops are doing something right for a change. >>
I resent that. I like to think that as a whole we do our jobs right. Don't let 10% of bad apples make you think we're all bad.

Personally, I think people should stay legal when it comes to lights, colors can cause distractions. but I also feel they are better served to go after more serious issues raterh than pulling kids over with blue lights.
I know there is a traffic division and the investigative divisions, my bone is they will ticket you for a lil blue light on your license plate, yet they wont come to your house and investigate a B&E as they "don't have the manpower" or what they have is better served elsewhere.
a few years back my house got broken into, no officer came, because they "just didn't have the manpower" as the officer on the phone tells me,she just had us send a list of items missing to them and they gave us a case #. Later that day within an 1/8th of a mile, first there was an officer in a photo radar truck, round the curve going under a bridge there were 4
, FOUR officers doing a radar trap. Sure they don't have the manpower So chances are if you got a speeding ticket, you had another one coming in the mail too. hows that for a real ticker. I knew the truck, so i slowed down and round the corner I also knew was there favorite spot (my GF's at the time, dad worked for the Calgary police, they called that stretch of road Revenue Avenue lol) and i didnt get a ticket.
I was sooooooooooooooooooooo $@#%@#%#@%@ pissed though, but thats Canada for ya, enough officers to bring in the cash from citations, not enough to actually do anything about the real crime.
thats not the officer's fault though, thats the system. they were just doing there job and I understand that completely. I am always respectful whenever I have been pulled over for a traffic stop, I admit when I am wrong, and I will ask questions, repectfully, if I feel its unjustified. I have gotten out of tickets because of my nature, but there have been some rude ones, but most are usually pleasant due to what I feel is my approach to them.
They probably wish all people they stop are like me hehe

Calling 911 and saying "I need police assistance now" and hang up will bring at least one car. Only use that of course if you need the assistance. I know I'd drop everything to investigate a B/E instead of a summons...

heheh ya that'll work, just like the time 4 drunks were trashing a store I used to work at, called 911 saying me and a co-worker getting assaulted, the cops showed up 25 min later cuz they felt the scrum at the bar was a priority, which maybe it was, I dont know. I lived.
There's enough police in Calgary, just most are in the traffic division. Thats the problem.
they just dont investigate B&E's there after the fact, they are not a priority unless it is in progress, then they'll come.
My problem isnt with the police, its who's running the police.
Still I respect them, they deal with more crap than anyone of us could ever imagine.

theres liek a hord of cops in downtown san jose on the strip, santa clara, jus chillin in the center divider with flash lights ticketing like a free for all zone, its nuts, but hey, cops gotta rack points sumhow, hehe
Sorry to hear that man I got pulled over here a few mths ago for my charcoal plate cover over my plate. Had lots of cops pass me and nothing then a DPS officer on a bike nails me going to school of all things. So yeah it sucks I got a fix it ticket for it but never had problems before.

We have about a one to two minute response time on most calls. How my department works is you are assigned a specific job that you do. You can either be in a radio car answering general calls for service (aided cases, accidents, alarms, 911 hang ups, 911 calls, crimes in the past/crimes in progress, et cetera). In a radio car, you are assigned a specific location that you are responsible for. When someone calls for assistance, the dispatcher can ascertain what car is responsible for that and will send that car and any additional cars if necessary.
On the other hand, we have VTL officers which are responsible for enforcing the VTL (Vehicle and Traffic Law). I volunteer for this detail a few times a month. You are given a slicktop or unmarked car with radar and are not assigned any radio calls unless it is an extreme emergency and/or other cars are tied up. You can of course pretty much go anywhere within your assigned precinct which is nice. Then we have POP units (problem oriented policing) which is a fancy name for street crimes unit. They drive around in unmarked units looking for crimes being committed and also do not really answer calls. This delegation of duties allows for a fast response time for the people we serve.
