Cooking up a new project
I like having projects around the house to keep my brain engaged, it challenges me and i learn stuff along the way. ive been reading so much about lsvtec builds lately its beginning to drive me mad.
Originally I had a gsr swap in my hatchback and i blew it up. dont ask how ok just take my word for it, it lasted three weeks.
Anyway, I managed to to get an LS swap for the price of my GSR head alone so I had some parts left over that survived the carnage. I have some idears as to what I'm going to build but whatever I build its going to be one of the last ones I ever do.
I'm going to use stock parts for the most part because I don't want to have to deal with compatibility and all that noise, im not looking for anything super high performance oh em gee magazine cover (dub step sound track) build, I just want to put something together that is going to run well and last a while
Currently I have an LS with Crower 403 cams, Blox intake manifold, GSR throttle body i/h/e. It moves. If I had opted for the GSR tranny I wanted, it would move much much faster. unfortunately I have just the LS tranny for now. sigh.
I have three ways I can go about my build. from least to most likely since 1-3 require mucho dinero
1. LS crank and ls rods with b16 pistons in a gsr block vtec head
2. GSR crank and gsr rods with pct pistons in my ls block with a vtec head.
3. b16 pistons on ls crank and rods in my ls block with ported ls head and crower 403s
4. most likely scenario: ls crank rods and pistons in my block, sell the head and crower 403s etc and throw on a b16 or gsr head. call it a day.
Im not looking to go over 7500 rpm, hell im probably going to end up using an ls transmission with it so what the hell. not really looking for over 160 whp, just something i can put put put ding ding around town in and open it up every once in a while.
Im in the initial planning stages of putting a budget together, but as I get stuff together, Im going to catalog my progress so i can look back on it years later.
