Which civic to buy?
Which civic to buy?
Well, first and foremost I am brand new to the site... the names TJ (if you didn't figure that out) and it's nice to meet you all. On to the point.
I am planning on buying a car (leaning heavily toward civic) what I am wanting is something that can be somewhat cheaply and easily modded... I am 20 years old and work two bull**** jobs, bringing in about $700 a month... and I pay bills so keep that in mind.
The game plan is to buy a civic and slap a cold air intake in it, convert it to a full synthetic oil, and put a nice aftermarket exhaust on it all within the first month or two of having the car... I am wondering what year/model would be most beneficial for me to be able to get a car that can get up while still be functional as a daily driver... also any other somewhat cheap mods that can be done to increase horsepower without messing my engine up is much appreciated..
I would like to slap a supercharger in there come tax season, gotta love tax returns... so I would like something that can handle that without me having to upgrade a bunch of other stuff if possible... any and all advice is greatly appreciated.

Re: Which civic to buy?
i would get a older bubble top hatch back there is alot more aftermatket support for those and the parts are alot cheaper plus there faster the only downside is there stolen alot.
Re: Which civic to buy?
but isnt trying to switch over to a full synthetic on a vehicle with over 50k miles a bad idea? I don't know much about car engines and such... but I hear it will may cause leaks...
Re: Which civic to buy?
If u do get 7th gen, make sure it's got the d17a2 with MT, dont be like me with the a1 with the AT praying to god I make it on the freeway at a decent speed and dont get hit from the back...
Re: Which civic to buy?
To be honest, your not going to get any real power out of simple bolt ons on a civic. The only way you will get a noticable difference is with a swap and a turbo. How much are you willing to spend? The 8th gen civic si's are nice cars but even then, 'cheaply modded' might net you 20 hp for $500 if your lucky..
Re: Which civic to buy?
As for how much I am willing to spend, I have yet to decide, considering I have lived on my own since 17 I am huge on bargain shopping, so whatever I can get at a decent price for the amount of miles, the year, the color... it has to be somewhat masucline... and the neat little options they have will be most likely steal it for me, however I am really most likely get a 2000 or newer...
And if you meant how much I am willing to spend on mods... that is as endless as my pockets.. I have no problem eating sandwiches for every meal for a week or two if it would mean adding something new into my car... after all, I have never heard of someone getting a girl naked because he ate a steak instead of a sandwich... but ladies love cars :P (that was a joke btw.... I am not that guy)
and as an offnote... I apologize for my questions! I didn't discover the "how to make your civic faster" sticky until after posting, I'm mega noob...

Daily driver... but I have a tendency to pretend my daily driver is a nascar.. I do a lot of driving past 2am... and I swear my right foot gains 10 pounds...
but yes it is a daily driver that I had intended on doing cheapish mods to...

Re: Which civic to buy?
Post-2000 civics feel dramatically more modern than the earlier gens, so I would definitely say get a 2001-2005 with a d17a2 and MT.
Re: Which civic to buy?
X2 on that... I'd get the 04-05 tho, my sister has the special edition one and is a lot nicer than mine, which is an 02. Although those are a little more expensive, but hey, newer yr, possibly less miles
Re: Which civic to buy?
I second the 04-05 idea, mainly because I own an 04 2dr DX Special Edition 5spd, and I love the thing..I've had it for almost 5 years now, it's got 254 000 km = 158k miles on it, and other than some minor wear and tear, the paint is in excellent shape, the car runs like it's new, and I love it! Plus, I was always a fan of the styling of the 04-05.
