Exhaust Input and Opinions

I did some searching of the forum and couldn't find any articles that answered the question I have, so i figured I would go with this thread. I think deciding which exhaust to replace on any given car or motorcycle is a process that should not be taken lightly for many reasons. With the many applications available by all the different companies today, it is hard to pick and choose without the opinion and visuals that are required to satisfy most of our thoughts. So with that being said, I am having a dilemma on finding an exhaust capable of producing the deep tone that I like to hear on my turbocharged Si.

I would like to enlist the help of fellow members and hopefully have some of you post links to videos on youtube or other sites displaying the sounds of the exhaust on your cars. I am trying to avoid that ricey/raspy sound that so many civics commonly produce. I have heard that the Skunk2 and Greddy systems are great for this. I just need some more input. Thanks for the help.

Nate

Re: Exhaust Input and Opinions

if you want a mellow and not too loud exhaust, apexi WSII is prolly the best. most of these exhaust will sound quieter on a turbo/supercharged car compared to a stock car due to the exhaust flowing faster.

i second the WS2 catback but if you don't want to spend 600 dollars check out vibrant streetpower exhaust coupled with there ultra quite resonator probably cost you around 200 for both then however much to have them installed.

I will take a look into it. Money is no issue. I would spend a grand on exhaust if it pleased me enough, but obviously i can get it for much less.

Re: Exhaust Input and Opinions

Holy crap you may have just solved my exhaust problem. That is exactly what I am looking for. It sounds amazing. I wish I could hear it in person. I know the video is not doing it justice.

Edit: After doing some quick researching, I found that Hytech makes the same twin loop concept of exhaust and offers a full catback for about the same price. The sound is pretty much the same. Just getting more for less.

Edit: Also has anyone heard or seen the Apexi GT Catback listed below here:

Re: Exhaust Input and Opinions

yes hytech does make a high quality knock off of the mugen twin loop but the only problem is its not a mugen twin loop so the sound won't be identical there are also lesser expensive designs like OBX but they sound nothing like the high end ones . if there's one thing i learned about moding is to do it rite the first time with no regrets. i will admit that i have never heard the hytech in person so i cant concur with other opinions but i hear good things about the company no pun intended.

Re: Exhaust Input and Opinions

I agree completely and I may still go with the Mugen Twin Loop anyhow and have the custom piping done since they don't offer a full catback setup for the car. You have any recommendations on a quality high flow catalytic converter???

Edit: Btw Lowlife09, what diameter of piping should I be looking at for my ride. I am running 8 lbs of boost on the Greddy Setup, pretty safe. I was thinking 2.25 inches or 2.5 inches or 60mm(2.36 in)?

Re: Exhaust Input and Opinions

I've seen a lot of people stay with the stock cat. General consensus on Honda boards is that our cats are high-flow enough without sacrificing life for a little performance. Most have either stayed stock cat or eliminated it altogether. From the ones I read about that did go with a hi-flow, they seemed to like Magnaflow.

Running boost, I've also seen a lot of recommendations for 2.5" and a few for 3" (depending how much boost).

Probably better waiting for someone's answer that has a turbo, but i came across a bunch of this info while looking for LX -> EX exhaust conversion threads.

Re: Exhaust Input and Opinions

The sad part is, I haven't even personally seen my car yet. Its at home in the garage and I am going off of everything I have been told about the car. The car is running about 8 lbs of boost on the stock manifold and stock exhaust I believe. So I am probably gonna move up to 2.5" and go with the Hytech twin loop. I wanna keep the car quiet so you can hear the engine and the turbo. I believe that's the best way I am gonna be able to go with it. I haven't decided if I am gonna have a new turbo manifold made or bought yet. I have to wait till I get home to look at that. Anyone with a turbo system out there have any input?
