About the Turbos and superchargers

ok. alot of people talk about how they are gonna get the turbo kit as soon as it comes out. same idealogy for the supercharger. but IN ALL HONESTY: how many of you would really shell out 4 G's to put a turbo in our car(and our car would still be slow)?

alot of ppl say "yo, i'll be on that kit the day its released" or " im saving up for the turbo now"

but are you really gonna get it?

i think ppl are just full of ****. i dont think 95% of the ppl who say they're gonna get it, will actually fork over the $.

so...would you really buy the SC/turbo, or is it that you would just like to see the kit out?

i think i'd like to see if it made that much of a difference before i bought it. Like if the car made 200 horses after it i'd say yes. But if it made 200 horses It's probably alot easier to do a k20 swap. And then put a turbo on that

Same here. And to think I was one off those ppl that wanted to put pressure on Comptech by emailing their a$$ off You got a very strong point. I just think that once turbo's and SC's come out for our cars, it'll give our tuning/styling scene an extra boost. Even if only a handfull have got the ***** to go for it. Sounds a hell of lot better then to tell someone there isn't a kit available So I guess we sometimes talk big about stuff, when in fact we should tune it down a bit. But that's part of the fun in here I think. And if everyone here was 100% honest we'd all be driving an RSX-S

I actually have plans to do an engine swap. But I want to have my car's exterior up to par before I shell out 9G's for a k20. That's why I'm not wasting any money on i/h/e. I'll just end up pulling them out with the engine right?

9G's? thats just crazy IMO. i'd rather sell the car and buy a WRX. and it will still be faster than the civic with a turbo. do you guys agree?

You know it does all depend on the performance once something is available. I would like to have a supercharger on my car. and if I could get somewhere above 50ish HP from one, then I would shell out the money. But if one does ever come out and it's a disappointment, then no. I don't think I would ever get a turbo though. Does that answer your question?

yes. completely. thanks. one thing though, what do you see 177 hp as? is enough to get you around, or is it a huge boost in power?

i dont know how to say this, but i think if you're looking for power, anything less than about 220-250 is low-power in IMO. i hope i didnt confuse anyone

I agree, it'd be neat to see a turbo out for our car, but I would never want to deal with the daily driver aspect of a turbo'd engine. A supercharger is different, but I don't see one of them coming out for the d17 in the next few years. The gude package seems a good alternative as it yields almost as much as a street legal turbo kit would provide. I for one don't have the money for any of it, but after the summer hopefully I will. Peace

I'm planning to get a turbo. No BS! I'm starting small and working up. First LX -> EX exhaust conversion, then guages, then an oil cooler, then a new clutch, then the fuel system, then the intake piping and BOV, then the exhaust manifold and downpipe, then the turbo, then a slight change in intake piping and an intercooler. It's all going to be a build up process. There are tons of details, but some of these things can be done before anything else is done. I'm not BSing. I'm researching and I'm going to to start buying things that I could even use if I didn't get a turbo installed. Then when it's time for the intake piping I'll have to make a decision. NA, FI, or nitrous. Until then...

i do not have the money for a turbo/super charger and i have not planned on getting either even if i had the money because i am not a fan of forced induction (i have my reasons) i also do not have the money to buy a different engine and have the time or patience to deal with having it installed. however, i do have the money for a new head and will probably be going with gude in the next couple of months, along with the typical I/H/E. those are the only performance mods i plan on making because i like to spend money on other things (like my new digital camera, and my home entertainment center ) we'll see about the car stereo this summer too. everyones opinions are different and i will support anyone who wants the turbo/SC...but i am curious as to see how many people will actually go thru with it....good thread

ofcourse i am not saving it, i am not going to buy it the day it comes out, after the turbo's set up has been done many times and the company release it more fine tuned and the price goes down, then i'll start saving for it and maybe get it if i really care for the speed that much. this car is slow no matter what we do, might as hell well go get a older car with more horses

I'm not gonna bother w/ a tubo or anything- cai and maybe some small add on's like a header or something is all I'm gonna do to my engine. I need it to be reliable and get good gas milage. The only way I would do something is like 4-5 years from now when I have a ton of miles on my car, then I would think about doing a engine swap, but till then I'm still paying off my car. What's the point if I pay for a turbo and the engine goes, then I'm out a ton of $$ + I still have to pay for my ride.

My question is: If you really want a car with an ashload of power and torque, why get a 200+ Civic? There is so much more out there, and with the cost of the car + mods + SC/Turbo...you're better off buying something like a used Audi or BMW. Those 2 stock alone are quick as alllll hell!! (Well, faster than a 200+ anyways.
SC? Turbo? Will it be fast enuf for you once the endz are sunk in?

Me personally, I'm sticken with I/H/E and I'm all set.

What's the whole point anyway? If I had a riding lawn mower I would be trying to make that go as fast as I could. You guys are right, Civics are puny - and that's part of what makes it fun. I am racing my 2K1 EX Sedan in the Street Legal Drag series this summer. Had the opener tonight. Best time was 17.386 @ 80.98 mph. Was I the fastest guy out there in the Sport Compact class? No way. There was an older Civic Hatch there that ran 11.5! I wasn't the slowest either. I won the first elim round then it got rained out. The point is to have fun with your cars. Some enjoy showing them, some dragging, some autocrossing, some all of it. Some just driving to work and back. That's OK, it takes all kinds. I wish I had a supercharger so I could stop getting pounded by one or two Neons, Celicas and the occasional Ford product. Thank goodness for bracket racing! And, by the way, I'll take any and all drag racing tips. There's pics of the drags on the website. And I'm the only 7th gen out there.

I wouldn't want a street legal turbo kit. I rather go custom turbo and not looking to spend more than 3-4 g'
