too much power from K20?

ok so i went to the tuner shop around here to express my need for those new mounts that are commin out so that we can put a K20 in our cars. They brought to my attention a couple of things:
1: California's SMOG tests. Wont pas smog, i guess i was too happy about the mounts to even think of that. But i can already over come that cause i know a guy that has a friend that owns a shop that will pass SMOG for me for some cash. (but you didnt hear that from me)
2: They said with that much power, i wont be able to lock up under hard acceleration, and that i could only run low 15's in teh 1/4 at my best. I was like, what the hell are you talkin about? And i didnt think of it till i got home, well how does the RSX lock up then under hard acceleration? Its not like im gonna have my 15's on my car when i get the engine, infact my 17's should be here any day now. I though for sure with that engine i would be in the 14's, seeing how the RSX-S runs 14's on street tires. Is he just blowing smoke up my a$$, or am i gonna end up spending 6 grand for an illegal low 15 second car?
p.s.- sorry for the long post

I don't think anybody is really going to know until it's actually been done. Htowncivc should be able to tell us one of these days.

I don't understand how it wouldn't pass the smog test...if it passes while its in the RSX-S, why wouldn't it in the Civ? What changes so drastically...hhmm....nothing I can think of. I think this guy was just bs-in' ya because he doesn't want to deal with it.

Can anybody say "bullshi *t" i think that if it passes in the RSX it should do fine and as far as the low 15s i cant forsee why that is unless its just a stock swap....but even then ??? i think its all a load

It won't pass smog tests because the RSX is a LEV (Low Emissions Vehicle) and the Civic is a ULEV (Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle). This means there is a whole different set of requirements. Since his car is registered as a Civic, then he has to pass smog testing for the ULEV Civic, not the LEV RSX Type-S.

And when he says "locking up" he means "hooking up" the tires... i.e. traction.... And the shop guy is blowing smoke up your ***. If you do the swap, then you'll have the type-s tranny, which is more than capable of handling the power of engine. The weight difference between the Civic and the RSX should be negligable, so you won't have to worry about not "hooking up" for traction...

A stock Prelude and Type S run about the same 1/4 mile times - low 15's to mid-to-high 14's depending on the driver. A few weekends ago at the IDRC Lone Star Nationals I saw a Type S run a 14.0 with intake, exhaust, and a 50-shot of nitrous. Taking into account that a 7th gen Civic is about 200 lbs. lighter than a Type S and about 400 lbs. lighter than a 5th gen Prelude, I expect to run somewhere in the mid-14's with intake, exhaust, lightweight 16" rims, and good tires. The real fun will come later when more power options (turbo, bottom-end parts, cams, etc.) are available for the K20A2.
