2009 Civic Poor Gas Mileage
2009 Civic Poor Gas Mileage
I own a 2009 Honda Civic. It has almost 9,000 miles on the odometer. My gas mileage has been poor since I bought the car new. It's the base model Civic, 4cyl, 140 HP, Automatic. I drive about 10 miles per day on average. Most of the driving is in town, but very seldom do I exceed 4,000 RPM. I use regular unleaded gas. I believe the shift point form 1st to 2nd in 3,500 RPM. I may hit 4,000 merging onto the interstate. It cruises at 65 MPH at at around 2,100 RPM. I only get 18 to 19 MPG, regardless of city or highway. I have never gotten better than 20 MPG. My daughter has the same year and model Civic and averages over 30 MPG. I took it to the dealer to have the fuel mixture analyzed. They told me everything checked out normal. My wife has a 4 cylinder Accord that gets about 27 MPG or better on the highway. I am not an agressive driver. I live in southern California, very seldom have bad weather conditions for driving.
Any suggestions?

How much stop and go driving are you doing? Is there a lot of red lights/stop signs?
I think it would be very hard to get less than 25mpg in a Civic but I do remember getting poor gas mileage when my car was new. Although, I don't think it lasted 9k...
