CVT LIFESPAN?

Let me introduce myself. I'm Troy Heagy, and I drive a Honda Insight that gets 70mpg (actually, I have 84 life average). Reason I'm here:

I was looking at a Civic HX with Continuously Variable Transmission, and I'm wondering how the CVT holds up over the long haul? My father advised me to stay away from the belt/pulley CVT because "they are nothing but trouble." Frankly, I don't believe that, so I decided to do some research.

For those who have had their CVT Hondas (any model) for 100,000+ miles... how did the CVT hold up?

Troy :-)

P.S. What other models of Honda have had CVT?

Well it is a honda and my guess is that it was to last a VERY long time. I mean honda wouldent sell junk would they? They would never do anything like that to us! I mean comon and i right or am i wrong? Ok im wrong but im guessing its very good just like Most of hondas stuff.

According to this forum: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/cvtcontinuouslyvariabletransm

The Honda CVT works okay at 115hp, but boost your engine to 130hp and the belt will snap after only a few miles.

So apparently it's an issue of belt strength vs. power.

The Civic HX Automatic is the only one with CVT. I have a HX, but it's 5-speed.
