Ford Edge, to buy or not to buy.
Well, I officially have two kids. So I'm looking into something that's a little bit bigger than my Pontiac G6, I still have my civic and I'm planning on keeping it to commute to work and back. I want to trade in my 2008 Pontiac G6 for a 2007 Ford Edge. I'm trying to work them down to 14, 500. Take a look and tell me what you think, remember this is Canadian so the price is higher than you would see in the fantastic U.S. of A, and it's kilometers not miles!

Haha I'm such an idiot. I'm tired as hell and looked right past that. I agree with that statement about 4 years ago. Nowadays Ford is making some badass cars... The edge is one good example!!! Fusion is also a very nice car.

Says consumer reports... They are becoming more reliable than imports... I'm not arguing over this your opinion has been given and thank you. -1 for the fix or repair daily.
Re: Ford Edge, to buy or not to buy.
You should consider the Mitsubishi Outlander as well. The wife has one, it is a 2008, we picked it up as a demo with 10K on it. Only getting the brakes changed today, it's 2.5 years old now.
Haven't had any issues and it drives awesome in the winter. The wife is not the most comfortable winter driver but she no issues getting around. We got the LS 4WD 7 seater, black on black with sunroof and sound system.
I even convinced my dad to get one and he was a Chev man his whole life, nothing but trucks.
I'm personally not a fan of Ford but if you like the car you think it will work for you go for it.

how about test drive first. some cars seem nice til you actually get inside and try to drive it. thats the most important thing. and what does it look like?

We did drive it. The thing drives awesome, just needs a brake job which I would make them do. There is a link up there of the car. It's real sharp looking. I'll look into the mitsu but they are hard to come by here in Ontario because we only have one or two mitsu dealers around.

Buy an Element if you got kids to haul around. But I get by just fine with my two door Civic coupe and my wife's two door Accord and we have two daughters. In my opinion everyone jumps to SUV's and vans too quickly when they have a family.

Re: Ford Edge, to buy or not to buy.
this really makes no sense. we have prolly 85% of the population here buying huge trucks and suvs that get 10mpg, and almost every time i look inside i see one person driving. what a waste. if you go camping everyday and need something to haul equipment thats fine, or if you have your own construction company and need to load it up thats fine too. but if you get a giant f350 or an excursion just because you think it makes you a "big man" thats where i draw the line. these are the same people that complain when gas is too expensive, and the same guys who floor the pedal every chance they get. and yeah, unless you have 5 kids to drive everywhere, there is no need for a giant monster suv. a car can usually transport 5 people at a time, 4 comfortably. so what does it matter if they are in an suv vs a car. this reminds me of my friend who got all excited about having A kid and got a big ford explorer. well couple yrs later he is constantly paying crazy amounts of money just to keep the thing on the road. last repair i remember was $2500 for an hvac problem. he finally ended up tossing it for a 4 dr accord. oh and if anyone says suv are safer, thats completely untrue. alot of suv have some of the worst crash safety ratings in history, even worse than cars from 20 yrs ago. every time i see a crash with a car vs suv, the guy in the car walks away and the suv has rolled over 10 times in a ditch and caught fire. but hey, its bigger right so i guess you have more room inside to move around before you burn.
if everyone drove 45mpg geo metros, i bet gas would still be $1.20 a gallon.

Re: Ford Edge, to buy or not to buy.
^ I agree that people who drive excursions because they want to be big men is plain stupidity. Having a crossover for kids however, is very, very convenient. Also, being a home owner, I've towed with it like 6 or 7 times already and I've only had it for a month. Besides, it's not even that bad on gas, I'm still getting around 22MPG with it and that's ALL city driving. I drive the civic 110 miles a day, the Edge I'm lucky if I'll put 5000 miles on it this year. It's simply for convenience, towing, and a grocery getter.
I'm very happy that I replaced the G6 with the Edge. With the G6 we could never, ever take the kids camping because there is no way we could fit all the crap in the trunk, and the child seats take up so much room. The Edge we can just throw the crap in the back and go, lots of room for it.

yeah at least you chose something that gets as good mileage as some cars. and can do alot of stuff. but i bet if you go asking most people why they drive what they do, most would say "i wanted something big" lol. its crazy to see how cars are actually moving backwards. im still amazed how our heavy 92 accord with 2.2L engine (which is totally messed inside with sludge and varnish) can get 28-30 mpg IN THE CITY! and my much newer civic with only a 1.7L engine in perfect shape barely gets 20-22mpg. maybe because i am constantly on the gas just to keep speed and make it up the gentle hill ahead. the older geo metros get the same mpg as a brand new prius hybrid. i guess car makers were getting ahead of themselves in 1990 and the oil companies werent too happy about it.

I think some people overdo it with the size of their vehicles..

Re: Ford Edge, to buy or not to buy.
it is rated 31/39 city/highway.. at least that's what was on the dealer spec sheet on my 02 ex.
I get 29-33 city and when I did nothing but highway driving (i.e. roadtrip down the west coast) I got 37-40

Re: Ford Edge, to buy or not to buy.
I get 33mpg average and the car does only highway. I drive around 80mph so it costs me quite a bit. If i drove 60 I'd probably make 38mpg or so. Ahh the old geo metros, nothing quite like the old 3 cylinder detroit muscle

Yeap, better believe it. Fantastic price man and I saw the carproof, no accidents or anything on it. Runs like a beaut, already used it to tow a crapload of stuff. In fact, I just did a massive dump run...
