so, I finally got around to finishing my short shifter setup. I have had the neuspeed adapter for a few months now, I cut my shifter down to right above the bend, and welded my old threaded piece back on. Just ordered the part # 08999-BAK-100 so I can match the boot up to my new Skunk 2 weighted **** that I ordered. Will post pics shortly!
I would never trust a shifter that's been cut and welded. I've seen too many snap off in not so safe circumstances.
If it was welded with the right heat range than the weld is stronger than the metal around it. If it is a bad weld then I would see a safety issue, but his weld looks good
A revo or OBX would have sufficed.
why not cut and re die the thread
Whatever, its cheap and is doing the trick. Props on trying something different.
wow...im speechless.. this is as ghetto as it comes, shirt shifters arent too expensive dude you should have just bought 1. And i would agree with 02BLKCIVIC you should have just cut it and rethread it
I just wanted to try something different guys, I already had the neupseed adapter so I figured I would just cut the lever....it won't break, I welded the crap out of this thing, worked hard so it would be right.....it will be just fine. Will post pics when I get the adpater and the skunk2 ****! If it does in fact break, I can always get the revo....this will suffice and will work!
i agree with triz..nice job man. Get pics when that **** is on! How does it feel?
i mean no disrespect, but the welding job seems a bit hinky...
well if **** breaks on you,
I have a stock shifter for sale.

No but I wish I could. I understand about the weld being stronger than the original metal if it's done right but in order for him to be right it has to work 100% of the time. In order for him to be wrong, it only has to fail once. I hope it works out and he did what we're afraid to do (I've personally seen this done many times as well as people cutting springs) but I'd still be afraid to drive it. Especially since I know nothing about welding and can't tell by looking at it how good it is.Originally Posted by Unevolved
Can you actually weld, Dex? Oh rock on. Hahaha what a milestone.
Lol I know right? Geeeeze where is this guy at? I wanna know how it shifts lol.
it shifts great...I will get pictures when the adapter arrives tomorrow and I get the skunk 2 400gram **** on there
correct...the boot adapter should arrive today, and the skunk2 **** should be here any day now...will post pics when all everything is completed!
well end of day Friday, the shift **** did not arrive today....so I am expecting it Monday morning. Will post pictures on Monday when everything is in. So far it looks and feels great. The shfot boot adapter looks like it will be perfect this ****. It works perfect with my existing ****.... SWEET! Very anxious for my SKUNK2 400 gram ****!
i like the idea, its creative for sure ,so props there! however, i would have just spent the 150.00 on a SS kit myself?
good work though!
good work though!
there was no need to spend that kind of money, I already have the neuspeed adapter which does the same thing...
way to be innovative and unique. dont mind these complainers they are just afraid to try new things...
