Should I buy a 2005/2006 Honda S2000?
So basically a lot of you know my car, it's a 2005 Civic DX Special Edition coupe with a CD player, air conditioning and power locks. I've added a Compustar pager alarm system, Tenzo-R (racing?) seats, Tein S-Tech springs, and 18 inch Tenzo-R Drive X-7 wheels. The most important part about these things is that I don't have the OEM parts anymore, I threw them away when I moved so I'd have to swap with someone else if the buyer complained. Also, any idea if it'd be real hard to sell a Canadian car in the USA? Would I be overpaying for a 2005/2006 S2000 for $25,000 sticker? I need to know all the details, whatever you can tell me here.......I'd trade my car in on the deal and figure maybe I can get the owing price on the loan I have which I guess is about $11,000. I bought it in 2005 on a 60 month finance for $18,900 at like 7% interest. I don't know a whole lot about this stuff, the Civic is my first car so since there are a lot of S2000 owners here (and on the other 2 boards I posted this on) I was wondering what I should do.

a dx special edition? wtf? they have those? wtf is that? lke a Lx? lol
anyways, get the s2000 man! i think it'd be a great investment and joy to drive...
but you gotta remember the insurance price is also in a different ball park...
but then seeing you are 26, it should be that bad...
so i say...get it!

if you dont have a daily driver, then i'd just keep the civic. an S2000 is a summer car and would be horrible in a Canadian winter.
also, a car is never an investment, its value will always depreciate unless you have some collectors car.

If it's smart financially, Hell to the yeah.
If you can't afford it, it's not worth the trouble. Pay off all your **** before you take it on.

Re: Should I buy a 2005/2006 Honda S2000?
Well I just think these will be the only differences:
a) monthly payments - stay the same or drop down
b) insurance - go up but not a lot, I'm almost 27
c) gas - damn, it's almost $5 a gallon for premium now
Otherwise it should be easy to afford. The car payments themselves will be about 5.5% of my monthly income. I think that's doable for sure. I got a few picked out, I'm going to see what I can get for my car on a trade in. There's one I really like but it's a private seller so I'd have to try and sell my car then, that'd be a pain in the ***.

^ it might only be 5.5% of your monthly income, but what about rent, food, cell, internet, car/loan pmts... it adds up... and of course you have to take taxes into considerations- 5.5% of your before tax income or after tax?

Re: Should I buy a 2005/2006 Honda S2000?
After tax, the car payments would be the same as the ones on my Civic now. It would just extend the term. When I got my Civic I was making comfortable payments and at the time the payments were 11% of my after tax income. However my rent was only 22% and now it's 33%. The way I see it, I have to pay that much a month on my car anyway, why not switch over to a S2000 and keep the same payments? The only difference would be premium gas and a bit more for insurance. I'm going to make some calls today and post my findings.

Apparently Geico's policy requires me to bend over and grab my ankles....
Your monthly premium is $299.69.
That is only $1582.00 for 6 months.

We are in a recession and if you can afford it, go ahead. Things aren't going to change financially around this place for at least 3-4 years. I know I am happy I drive a civic now and I have no car payments.

Ive been browsing S2ki for the last couple months in anticipation of possibly getting a s2k as well. During that period, I have watched gas prices skyrocket. Keep your civic and get a bike. I've decided thats what Im gonna do.
Re: Should I buy a 2005/2006 Honda S2000?
what kind of questions is that?@! s2k all the way man. it seems like you can afford it so i would def get it. no matter what car you drive gas is still going to be expensive, even with the civic... so i say get it

Wants vs. Needs. If your civic fits your needs, then keep it. These are the times when people get themselves into financial trouble because they let their wants rule their needs. Buy a house or invest the money in an IRA so that you have something worth while at the end.

having a paid off car is a good feeling. then all you worry about is MGB (monthly gas bill) lol. usually around 200 for me which is like a car payment.

Man, I fill up my car like twice a month, my monthly gas bill would be about $100 or less. I don't even take my car to work, just for meets and to the grocery store sometimes......that reminds me, be right back.......

Whats the question here? There is no 'or' between the 2005 and 2006.
Buy one, You know everyone on these forums want one.

Re: Should I buy a 2005/2006 Honda S2000?
But is everyone ready to hear my story of how bad my math is off and why I can no longer consider this? I was thinking about selling my car for about $11,000, that way I'll get enough to pay off the remainder of the loan I have on it which is about that much, and then use the $11,000 I got from selling it to put towards the S2000.
I failed to realize that I was spending my theoretical money twice......once on paying off my car and once on putting it towards the S2000.
Oh well, I could look at a 2000/2001 but I'll just keep my Civic I think. Joined: Jan 2003

The question is whether I should get one at all, the years are there strictly to display which ones I was looking at.

See, this is why I'm a programmer who can't even calculate his own student loan!
