D.I.Y headlight clearing difficult?

i have a 2002 civic ex. Im looking to do the D.I.Y. headlight clearing but im concerned about screwing up my headlights. Did anyone have trouble when they did it or is it fairly simple to do. I really dont feel like screwing up my only set of headlights and paying 150 a pop for new ones.

SEARCH THIS.
And no, it's not hard.

Headlights are $224 each.

I can understand your hesitation to clear them because I'm in the same situation. I don't have enough money to buy a pair of projectors just in case but I really think my car would look a lot better if the amber was gone from the front. One thing I have learned from all threads is DO NOT TOUCH THE CHROME!!

Good luck, and once you become a member post some pics

heres my opinion and advice. if ur a newbie and this is a first time diy clearing light. it will take a long time to do. maybe even 2 days to finish because u want to follow all the steps. second of all, if ur car is a sedan, it will make a nightmare out of this.. third. u need a working oven. if not ur sckrewed. but if u have help it would be really easier....

it should be ok man. of course its not easy, you may need to do somethings to work it out but, with enough information you should be fine. everything ur feeling right now is normal, hell i wouldnt want to mess up wid my lights also because i may do something wrong in the process. however, im sure ill do clear my sedan lights anyway someday.

by da way man, sedan's are harder to clear compared to the coupes.

If you touch the chrome, just wipe the prints off gently with a towel. No big. And preheat the oven to 250 degrees, pop the headlight in for 7-8 minutes... let it cool enough for you to touch, and open!

The hardest part for me is removing the chrome insert... it's really no big to touch the chrome as it can save you from getting the stuff that seals the headlight - ON THE CHROME... that is 5 times worse! But if you know how to take it out properly (and put it in the same way... there's only one way to remove it and put it back in), it's still no big. If you do get the sealant on the chrome... I dunno what to say cuz the sealant is different on a sedan, and I have a coupe...

So just for you coupe owners... I hear wD-40 works well, and so does wiping it off with a towel... which is time consuming, but will work if you don't do it it swirly motions... then you'll make it worse. The goal is not to spread it, but to wipe it away in a repeated manner.

Some places on the chrome are okay to touch... take a look at the headlight as it's on the car now... ANY part of the chrome you see should be cleaned if touched. Otherwise, anywhere else that won't show is fine... if the hood is up, fingerprints still won't show though you see more of the insert... it's just that the top of the headlight lens has ripples, and besides, on a sedan, it's hella skinnier than a coupe's. Just go for it. I doubt anything will break. You'd have to be very clumsy to break something or to do this completely wrong.

If you need help with this, PM me.

If you lose a screw, just replace it at the dealer. (54 cents sounds pretty reasonable.) Just try not to lose the black clips... THOSE ARE EXPENSIVE. $3 and some odd cents each!

Ok, that's all I feel like telling you. I don't think there's anything else I can say anyways...
