Someone please explain the difference!!!!
Ok, call me dumb but can someone please explain the difference between "granny shifting" and "double clutching" Thanks!
that line in the movie doesn't make any sense..it's just there to sound good..
those are two totally different things....granny shifting i think is just shifting slowly....and double clutching is a whole other story..

It doesnt matter for our cars anyway because we have good syncros, but Im pretty sure (someone correct me if Im wrong) but its when your shifting from gear to gear and actually tappig the clutch twice, once when coming out of the gear and once more when going into the next gear to line up the syncros for a smoother shift.
I think granny shifting is when you shift and let off the gas and double clutching is when you shift and not let off the gas. I'm not sure though
ok here ya go:
A.) Granny Shifting: Shifting early, like 3000rpm, like an old lady.
B.) Double-Clutching: In the old days, before synchros were invented, you could get better performance from your transmission if you hit the clutch, put the tranny into nuetral, rev-match the engine to the transmission, and then down-shift by hitting the clutch again.....
However since synchro's were invented this doesn't need to be done anymore, since the transmission matches the gears up with the engine speed, you can downshift/upshift at high-rpm's without worrying about it, but if you're driving hard you should still rev-match the engine when down-shifting...
Really the line in the movie makes no sense, if they're all-out dragging, they should never down-shift anyways, and there is NO reason why you would want to granny-shift in a race...

Simkin, has it right on the money for the "Double Clutch", I used to drive truck before I got into I.T. and used to do that all the time, any one who drives a truck can explain it. As for "Granny Shifting" I have no idea exactly what it refers to, slow shifing maybe?
