$8000 for a turbo!!!!!
$8000 for a turbo!!!!!
I dont know if we can bash a local store on this site...like give out their name, so I won't but I went shoppin around over the weekend and visited a local performance shop. The guy told me that the HKS turbo is indefinately coming out, and then he said he can put in a custom turbo for around eight grand!!!! I asked the guy what kind of crack he smokes, and left. What a rip off. I heard that the HKS one is still coming out, and will be around 3-4 grand. I think I wil wait for that one. Just needed to vent...

wut kind of turbo is it? if it is a stage 1 turbo and cost 8 grand then don't be stupid to do it. as for the hks turbo. 4 grand for a regular turbo is tooo much. better if u can scavenge a turbo from other hondas and put it in our 2k1civic if they fit. i hope the hks turbo has blow off valves and intercoolers and not a stage 1 turbo....

$8000 seems a little steep..but Custom Turbo kits are mighty expensive because they have to make you exhaust maniful from scratch...spend many many hours of tuning your fuel ratios. They'd have to modify your fuel system. re map your fuel ratios. Alot..and I mean ALOT of work.. $5500-7500 isn't uncommong for a custom turbo kit made from scratch depending on what actual charger you use.

Having talked to an HKS guy before, he told me it is very unlikely they are going to sell the prototype kit they have for our car
. His reasons were that HKS is wanting to sell only street legal kits (more people will buy the kit if it is NOT for offroad use only) and with our small injectors they would need to be larger (our injectors are about 30% smaller than 99-00 civ) which would most definitely make the kit for non-street use. Hopefully, something changes and they sell the turbo kit, cuz I know I would definitely buy one

The hks turbo kit dosent pass california emitions thats why they wont sell it. Also most of the other big turbo comps are based in california and they also wont be making a mass produced turbo because of there strict emition laws.
