92 teg gs tranny question
My friend got a 92 Integra GS for $900 yesterday. It was in pretty good condition and he was able to drive it home all safe and stuff. From what he was telling me, the $900 was a steal. Anywho, he said he was trying to drive it out of his complex when it stalled out but didn't jerk like stalling a car does. He gets out to find that his tranny pretty much exploded.
With that said, does anyone know what trannies can be used on a B18A1 engine? I'm going over to look at it in about an hour or so.. I'll bring my camera just in case its a perdy sight..

Re: 92 teg gs tranny question
lol.. my bad.. manual tranny
so.. any b-series manual [cable] tranny will work.. cool.. my friend went to go pick up a tranny (a random b-series [b18 i think says the seller] for 200 bucks picked up), so we're gonna see if it works. if it is a hydraulic clutch tranny, are there any kits to convert to a hydraulic clutch system? or would he have to buy all the clutch components from say, a b18c, or something, to make it work?
he said if it doesn't work then he'll ebay the one he's getting and attempt for another one. I'll let you know if he needs it though

Re: 92 teg gs tranny question
for anyone interested in the case of the exploded tranny, here's an update.
The tranny he got is, in fact, a YS1, that had about 30-40k miles on it. Also, we think the problem was a catastrophic failure of the differential. I'll post pictures of the hole and stuff when I get home from work. I'm holding one of the differential pinion gears in my hand, with the teeth all eaten up and wondering how exactly the shaft sheared like it did. Pics to come later.. lol

Re: 92 teg gs tranny question
For anyone that's been looking forward to pictures of the exploded tranny, here ya go

Lookie! Tranny insides! My buddy tried to pull the tranny casing apart but couldn't, but you can still see the part of the housing that cracked.

going 180 on the casing, here's a hole that was blown through the casing

lovely motor mount fix the previous owner did

pieces of tranny casing in my hand
Update on the situation:
Tranny's off, motor's outta the engine. My buddy decided to rip apart the block and see the engine's real age. Head got taken off and sandblasted, he's reassembling the head at his apartment, then he's off to his friend's house (were the car's at) to reassemble the block, either attach the tranny and drop it in, or drop in the block and attach the tranny, whichever seems easier. All 4 motor mounts are being replaced, too. Should (being the operative word) be up and running by monday.
