Anyone interested in a program for wheels?
I was playing around the other day and noticed that there are several people asking about how far their speedometer is off with bigger wheels. I started playing around and started working on a program for it. I'm just curios if anybody would actually use this before I continue with it. You enter in your stock tire size (I did that for the one's with 14" wheels) and then enter the size of the wheels that you currently have or plan on getting. You can either enter your RPMs and find out the speed with both tires or you can enter the speed that your speedo says, and it will give you your actual speed. I posted a screen shot of what I have so far.

Yah, I've seen it. But for one it doesn't tell you exactly how far it is off. Only by a percentage in difference between the stock size and the current size. In a way its more than just a tire calculator. I'm still playing with the transmission stuff though, I'm just playing with it. Not getting real serious with it, just blowing time mainly.
Oh no...Visual Basic
. I'm not sure I see the utility since the calculations are pretty simple/straightfoward, but hey, whatever floats your boat. I write tons of useless programs that I use once and forget.

Yup, I know exactly what you mean. I have several programs that I have written and haven't used in who knows how long. I thought the math portion was fairly straight forward as well. But there was a forum the the Vehicle Issues section about a Honda tech telling some guy that his transmission was going to burn up because he put such big tires on. I sat down and did the math and it was less than a 1% difference. It seemed like there are a lot of people who were curious about how far off their speedometers are. I have stock wheels on my car and don't plan on getting 17"s until mid-late summer. I was just playing around. I started to get bored with it so I was just curios if anybody would actually use it, otherwise I'm not gonna finish working on it.
KevinFWB just went out and ran some numbers for you. EX 5sp 205/55-16. RPM's were as close as I could determine looking at the marks.
60 mph - 2900 rpm - 5th
70 mph - 3400 rpm - 5th
80 mph - 3900 rpm - 5th
90 mph - 4300 rpm - 5th
100 mph - 4800 rpm - 5th
106 mph - 5000 rpm - 5th
110 mph - 5350 rpm - 5th
112 mph - 5500 rpm - 5th
115 mph - 5550 rpm - 5th
100mph - 6900 - 4th
My car revs to 7,000 before cutoff. I think with the SRI, my top end has decreased !!
I only had about 5 miles of run for these measurements. I'll try again another time and another place.
