dude.. a jetta-- you bought the wrong car if your looking for trouble free!!
why an 06, thoes are relatively new, aka thoes motors will be more then any other k20

um got a 2000... that is why it has th 12v vr6 (the "vee" inline, or v6 with 15 degrees of seperation between the banks)... that engine came out in 1991... used in mkiii and mkiv jettas and gti, some passats, and corrados... other vw/audi engines that are 2.8l vr6 has either 24v or 30v
i also go to skool full time and work 58hrs a week so having a car in the shop for a long period of time was not an option... i have a civic hx with cvt, meaning the ecu wiring is different then dx, lx, and ex... could do a 5sp swap but the rev limiter is set lower on the hx so you dont blowup the tranny... anyways i just sold a k20a3 w tranny from an ep3... doing wiring from a d17a6 with cvt to a k20 would be a bitch and waiting on hasport would take too long...
also always liked the vr6 engine... a six cylinder that is smaller in size than a conventional v6, but having a shorter crank than an inline six allows it to have more ability to push more with a stock block than if it has a inline six (there used to be inline eight engines but the crank would often get messesd up due to its length)... people heve pushed 400+hp on stock block with a turbo, so if it can handle that, it can handle all motor
so please read what i wrote originally mkiv jetta = 1999-2005 jetta (new ones are mkv) 12v vr6 = the first type of vr6 from 1991-2002 (new ones are the 24v or 30v which come in 2.8l, same displacement as mine, or 3.2l, like in the awd r32)

why you getting upset. All triz stated, is that you bought the wrong car for reliability. I agree with triz 100%. He stated nothing about performance, or potential of the vehicle.
You were complaining about reliability issues in your intial post, and you end up buying a vw?? LMFAO.

um my civic = over $6000 in just mechanical repairs in the past 2 years = reliability
tranny went out twice in 18,000 miles... after the rebuild, the warranty was only for 12months/ 12,000 miles
i think it would be atleast more reliable then that, and if its the same, its a lot cheaper to fix this then a civic hx with cvt (cost for tranny rebuild is about $4000 along with it being in the shop for atleast two weeks because its hard as hell to find a rebuilt 01-05 civic hx cvt tranny for sale)
also i was complainig about the reliability of the type of tranny... if you dont know what is cvt is, look it up... honda cvt tranny weak point is the metal belt inside of it... i have seen it shattered in mine... if you get any type of cvt (ewww i thought i would never say that), get that audi one (hmmmm funny)... it uses a chain... but anywho i say get neither unless if you have the time to pamper your tranny...
as far as the reliability with the vr6, it mostly electrical (coil pack and maf sensor mostly), not mechanical... again the civic hx mechanically was horrible... no other car i think would be this bad... other civics is fine, just not the hx... so as far as reliability of a jetta vr6 and civic hx cvt, jetta is more reliable... hell a freaking yugo is more reliable considering i bought this new for $13500 and if i fixed the tranny again, it would have cost me atleast $10000 in mechanical repairs in 2 years... just one break down for the price of the car
oh yea, i still own my hx, but want to do either a k20a or k20z1 (minus the drive by wire) swap... but that wont be for awhile...
my point of this post is
DONT GET CVT TRANNSMISSION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !

it was my first car = me stupid... i didnt know how to drive stick and wanted a black civic coupe auto... saw this one and wanted it and it was $15000, but waited to make sure i wanted it... then in the newspaper the next day, they were advertising it for $13500, and i was like i have to have it now... dont worry i kick my own *** every now and then because of that... the hillarious thing is that i have switched my major from art to mechanical engineering so... um... yeah once i got a little bit more knowledge, i started kicking my own *** harder
oh yeah cvt stand for continous varible transaxel, which is a form of "automatic" transmission... i does not contain any gears but two drums that can vary in diameter and a belt conecting the drums... as the drums' diamter change the "gear ratio" changes... this forms an infinte amount of gear ratios which optimize acceleration and fuel consumption... BUT TH STUPID BELT BREAKS... also i should have known this once i took off my bumper and saw a tranny cooler on the passanger side
