I'm really tempted on getting another car.
So how many of you would rather have an american made and brand car over an import asian car?.
are asian cars like honda and toyota better cars than american made cars like FORD or DODGE?
what would YOU rather have?

I didn't read all the posts I kinda just scrolled through them, all I saw was "I want an Evo, Scion Tc, Ninja Bike..etc...etc." You seem like a cool guy but you definately need to get your priorities straight. Having $8K owed on a '02 is kind of a bad thing considering the trade in on that car is average $5-6K. So either way you are a little upside down with your car but it isn't too bad. Jumping into another car in this case is only going to make things worse, since you probably don't have a big down payment (otherwise you would be owing less on your current car), which means your interest rate might be a little higher and it isn't even guaranteed you can get good financing on that car without a good downpayment because that negative equity on your car tacked onto the new one will be way over the Blue Book value. So overall if you jump into another car right now, you are going to pay way too much for what it is worth.
In the meantime, I say you just chill, keep on making your payments on the civic and hopefully your financial situation will change by the time it is almost paid off. You may even find a good deal on a used bike or '92 CRX or something, some kind of toy to play around with while you keep the civic and pay it off. All I have to say is PAY OFF THE CIVIC. Not only will it help out your credit, and help you get a house later on, but you will save soo much money in the long run (fuel, maintainence, insurance) that you would otherwise be wating on the Evo/bike. Be wise man, you are 25 years old, you should know that in the end nobody really cares what kind of car you drive and nobody of worth will think less of you if you drive a civic. Sure having a lot of toys is fun, but what's the point of having them if you are having to finance them and struggle to make ends meet because of them. Think to yourself, is it really going to bring you that much joy? Cars and bikes should be looked at as expenses, meaning they will eventually be worth nothing in the end, and bring no added value other than joy. So unless you have $30K extra in the bank that you can spend than I say go for it, otherwise keep the civic and be happy with it, I'm sure there are millions of peopel in this world that would love to be in your situation and have a good car to drive.
Good Luck.

yeah you're right. I guess i should just chill out. i've been ok since i posted this thread cause i know that times aren't THAT good with money. i think with a credit score of 802 and a credit history thats just as good as the score, i should just chill out and keep paying off my civic and grow my credit EVEN BIGGER AND BETTER!. you should know that i didn't buy my civic brand new. it was used for 10K with 41,600 miles on it when i bought it. i love my EM2 but for the money i'd like to put into it, i'd rather have something thats already done up and looking good cause i bought my civic used with dings and dents and already broken in. everyone deserves the chance to own and buy their first new car sometime in their life right?. i guess right now isn't time for me. although i'm STILL considering getting the NINJA though. i know that it could possibly be cheaper for a bike than a newer car.but i'll look into that REALLY REALLY CAREFULLY!. i would actually rather have a bike AND a car but like i said, i'll be carefull and look into that possibility really good so i can make sure i don't screw myself. i appreciate the advice and i'm taking it very seriously. my car has TONS of potential. i should just start dumping all sorts of money into it. ofcourse that is when i have the money LOL. THANKS ANYWAYS.
OH YEAH!, and YES, i was serious about asking a question like that in a CIVIC forum. i just wanna know why more people in the world like choosing jap cars over american made cars.

Imports other than Korean are the way to go. I would take a Kia/Hyundai over a ford/chevy anyday.
Here is an interesting thread on another site about this same thing recently: http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=97980
It is entitled "Hummers and American cars suck" and to summarize it is some guys experience with his brand new H2. Which leads to others' stories about their crap american cars including breaking down out of the lot, to more in repairs in the first year than the purchase price of the car. Then the explainations of how unions play a major role in the crappiness of the build quality of American cars.
Even imports that are built in america are pretty bad. Take for example the 2001 Civic Ex in the US, and the 2001 Civic Si in Canada. I have the Canadian version and the build quality inside it is much better than the US version. I have seen both side by side. My plastic panels are thicker and don't give. The US version if you push on them lightly, they start to give. On my civic, the door hinges seem sturdier as well. They make a nicer "click" when you shut them than the US version. Those are just some examples.
And to give my own story:

Mine was made in ontario, along with my dads, and soon my sister's.
We owned a Mazda (626 I think) for about 2 months when we first moved to this country. We thought maybe we would try it out. Well It was brand spankin new and so many things went wrong in those 2 months, that we just junked the damn thing...
And bought another toyota and honda. I have had a subaru in the past, and it was great but had over 200,000 miles on it. It still ran strong but neglect on my part (first car, 16, who knew that car's needed regular oil changes?
) so the head gaskets started to bust and the car overheated after 20 minutes of driving.
American cars and Korean cars about equal in their crappiness....

i traded in my civic 4 a 07 tairlblazer and god damn the trailblazer is actually faster than my tuned civic not bad for an suv. 300 hp 280 ft lb or tq. this thing moves and best of all its 4 wheel drive or 2 wheel whatever i perfer. yea its a suv and yes it gets 16 mpg but hell for the speed and power its worth it. now ill add the cold air intake that actually does somethin unlike the 01-05 civics and a ecu tune ill be running low 15's . and its an suv!!!!!. i am on a new forum now these things see high to mid 14's with bolt ons and ecu tunes nice!!!! and guess what its not a ss either

i take it you're saying that the Evo isn't reliable?. how can you say that the Evo isn't reliable?. just because it's an Evo doesn't mean you have to go fast in it all the time and break it making it UN-reliable. i believe that the Lancer Evo is just as well made as ANY honda civic. but the rest of the Lancers SUCK!. just my opinion. The Evo has lots of good reviews. they have good warrante's too. i don't understand the "un-reliability" in an Evo. Those cars are worth every penny spent.

I evo and si are not even in the same class of car. Its not a fair comparison. Your comparing a all out sports car with a sporty economy car.
A better comparison would be a EVO and a S2000. As for the EVO reliability, the EVO engines are very reliable because misitusbishi has been using the same engine for the past 10yrs. They've had over a decade to work out any issues. The only issues with EVO's is that they come with a poor quality clutch and have clutch issues depending on how aggressive you are with the car.
To your question. I would go with a evo since its 290hp, awd and turbo.

yeah, i never knew that Evo's had bad clutches. what i wanna know too is how much would insurance be on a regular basis for a person. i'm JUST wondering. I hear alot of times about "insurance" this and "insurance" that for the Evo's. whats up with the insurance!?. nowadays it's not about the monthly payments anymore., it's the insurance rates people are getting for those cars. i wonder how much they're actually talking about.
OH, and do any of you know if the Si can be bought with an OEM bodykit on it or whatever they have for those cars?. i could've swore i seen one the other day that looked TOTALLY different!. it looked stock, yet a bit spiced up.

Hey Man, I have read how ya want an EVO, Stick with the Civic man far better of in the long run and + so many parts you can snap on its so much more fun. Now as for the bike, If you have never owned 1 I would say ebay or buy a used bike. I would recomend a 600 of pretty much any brand. I own an R6 and let me tell you that when u drop a 750 motar on a 600 frame it fricken fly,s and I can do 76mph in 1st. I think your going to get that speed craving out on a bike. So keep the car man, upgrade it slowly and when u want to fly like a bat out of hell, use the bike u paid, 2 1/2 grand for, not the brand new evo!
yeah thats awsome!. that WOULD be fast. hey, if i DID get an 8th gen civic what would you guys think?. atleast i kept it in the family right?. I'm thinking of getting an Si COUPE maybe in BLACK.
I'd go with an Evo anyday. Thats been my affordable dream car. I'm young, but I'd hope that if I got a good job (into computers and crap) after college and all that, that would be a good goal to go for.
I'd take the Evo anyday because, yeah is the Si nice. But I absolutely hate how Honda changed up the Civics in 06-07. To me, the best looking civic is the 04-05. But just my opinion.
