Trade? or not? 2k1 Civic LX auto to 2k1 Civic LX manual.. go or no go?

hey people..
I've been reading up on trade treads..
but can't really decide...
I had my car 2k1 civic lx for 4 months oem keyless & OEM cd player... got about 3000 miles..
would I be losing money if I trade for a 2k2 civic LX manual?
I would really like to drive a manual.. I don't race.. but I like to get a head start on green lights..

let me hear what you all have to say..

You just might be able to swing a trade at a dealer as automatics cost I think $850 more or something...

Do the trade! Manual's are way more fun than autos.

You can beat all kindza carz off the line w/ a manual tranz. You'll still lose if your racing....you need nitrous or sumn if you wanna stay ahead. (cuz civics are slow)

Atleast with a manual you have way more control like holding a gear in a turn or when about to exit. I blew my Mom's auto 4 times when I was 16 from all the downshifting.

You are going to take it up the rear if you trade. With the car only being a year old, the depreciation is going to tear you up son. However, it may not be too bad if you negotiate a good deal on the new car. Go to a dealer and see what they come up with. I would just stick with the auto but if it means that much to you...

I would go 4 the trade cause 5 speeds rock. Hope you don't lose much in the trade, but if you do, the 5 speed will pay u back in the long run. I had a 96 dx auto, then traded in on a 2001 dx 5 speed , will never go back to auto again.

I grew up driving stick. I love driving stick... but I now live in Los Angeles... I'd destroy a stick. I bought a Deuce (2K2) Auto EX... I love it. When I buy my Audi TT or more high end sports car, I'll get another 5/6speed. But until then, I'm sold on the auto (auto - covered by dealer - stick - not). I spend a lot of time on side streets and the freeway traffic here is nearly unbearable... just learn to drive the auto properly. The only drawback for an auto EX (despite the VTECH (SOHC)) is no overdrive (o/d) button. I would like the power for climbing and passing, but D3 does just fine... watch your rpms.

i would never buy any auto, they are boring as hell to drive. i say go for the trade. youll probably lose something if you let the dealer install the cd player and keep the stock tape player (although they might trade it over to the new one and put the new stock tape player in your old lx, for an installation charge of course), plus youll probably lose something on the oem keyless entry

Let me know what happens because I have the same dilemna

However, I have an auto EX with ABS/Aircon package. 11k miles on it, how much do you think i'll lose getting a manual EX you guys? Or is it cheaper changing from auto tranny to a manual or will that know work as good as a normal manual?

MT not covered by dealer?
Dealers fixing mine at over 35,000.
Do the trade as long as the dealer does you right.

u gonna loose a lot money if u trade. u r better off finding someone wants to trade his 5 speed for your auto. or like someone's selling their 5 speed civic then do a trade. they can get more money for a auto civic anyway.

Yes, Honda will cover basic wear and tear but if you shred your clutch by racing and soforth, you will not be covered... read the fine print. How long they expect a manual to last is a lot different from how long it WILL last if you mod and use it for other than regular driving. I'm not hard on my clutch, but constant shifting between first and second in L.A. traffic will grind it to dust with two years (well under 35,000 miles) and some days the I'd never get past 2nd.

Sidenote: I forget to put my auto into PARK and try to turn it off... I'm so used to driving a stick and leaving it in gear!

And if you're here in BC, the 14.5 % tax rips sheetz up!
Do the trade and lemme know how much you lost. Mine is just over a year old with almost 33k on it.. hehe i might
trade it in for the new SiR...

well.. guys.. follow-up...

I went to the dealer today.. to find out about trading in my 2k1 Civic LX 2DR auto w/OEM Alarm & CD Player.. 3000miles... Trade in value= $12000
Difference b/w 2002 Civic LX 2 Dr Manual= $3000
I've driven a manual today... it was awesome..
but I don't think I'll go for the trade... cuz $ 3000... I could have gottned a EX auto when I was first buying the car...
Just not worth $3000 Extra dollars...
I guess I'll keep my auto & mod it out...

What you all think?

<< a year old with 33k on it? what?? where did you drive?? >>

33,000 kilometers not miles..

but i guess i drive alot.. i drive 15 km to work, 15 km after work to pick up my gf, then 10 km to drop her
off, then 15km to go home.. roughtly.. so that's about 50-60 km's a day.. and then on the weekends
i drive all over the place...
but i guess the bulk of it was when i drove to alberta from BC, that added an additional 2,000kms..
going for a big tune up this weekend cuz my brake dust is building up...

anyways, if i had the extra cash i'd throw the 3k down for stick hehe

but i'm waiting another couple of months and trading up for 2k3 CIVIC SiR woohoo!!
