What about the Mazda6?
What about the Mazda6?
I was bored one night so I was lookign around the local dealers. I noticed that the Mazda6 is now 6 speed turbo'd 2.3 with 270 horse. Sounds like it is/could be a quick car. Is it the price that detours people or is it not that nice/quick/whatever?

The Mazdaspeed 3 is coming with the same motor but FWD only. Should be fairly quick too.

Having driven the MS6 as hard as the Mazda people would let me... I'm not impressed at all. Its a pig, it handles like a buffalo (it plows like hell) and with 270 HP you would expect it to be much faster than it was. Maybe it was because it was such a big car, but an MX5 (miata, whatever) felt faster, and definitely handled better. With AWD you would think they'd let it get a little crazy, given that AWD can pull you out of a slide with relative ease, but its just not an impressive car at all for what they charge. also, with the top mount IC and nearly no airflow to it (it draws from a small duct under the lip of the hood) expect it to heatsoak in no time. MS seems to do a fantastic job getting the car right in principle, but their execution always seems to fall short of the mark.
For 32K or whatever they want for that thing, get a G35. They've priced it beyond reason.

It's a flawed car...I mean it's trying to be too many things at once. It doesn't quite deliver in any aspect at all...I mean if you're looking for a nice family car, the MS version is going to be too finicky, too harsh, and a little too enticing to the driver to get crazy with it. And it's obvious that this thing doesn't deliver as expected on the performance side of things. I would say that it's more aimed at the Subbie Legacy crowd than anything else.
The MS3 though, from reviews, it sounds like the next SRT-4 minus the lack of class. That appears to be a very nice car...I think it was Road and Track or Sport Compact Car that titled the MS3 article "EVO performance for economy price" or something like that...right now the MS3 seems to be the first car MS has gotten right. For some reason Mazdaspeed seems to get cut short on what they originally set out to do...I hope they do the RX-8 and that they do it right.
Oh well...

Yea I read somewhere that the Mazdaspeed 6's were not selling well so you could probably get a good deal on them.
I've driven a Mazda 6 V6 and was pretty impressed with it. I handled well and was quick. Unfortunately, they appear to have some reliability issues with the V6 version.
I drive a Mazda 3 and I'm very happy with it.

I dont think they are selling at MSRP anymore........
LIke nookiemonster said, I also think the car is aimed toward the Legacy GT crowd. Car and Driver ran a test, I think they had the MS6, Legacy GT, and Audi A4.

yea, get the mazdaspeed 3... it can kill a WRX in the quarter if you can get a hold of the 260hp and 280tq through the front wheels.
car and driver thinks its the best thing since sliced bread. in the article, they talked about all the stuff mazda did to reduce torque steer/understeer and they say it worked. theres an LSD, and the ECU will back off on throttle if the wheels arent pointed straight to reduce the torque steer... kind of like traction control but only for acceleration.....
i want one...
